After all, we do collect wildlife samples, break off pieces of vent chimneys and scoop up rocks, which are all technically habitats down there. But is it so bad if all this is done in the name of science? To help guide research on and around hydrothermal systems, an international non-profit organization called InterRidge.

This will be a short first post, as we are getting ready to sail. Last night we all enjoyed our last hours on land. Most of science team was exhausted from running around all day making last-minute trips to Home Depot. Despite the whirlwind of activity, it was hard not to pause and admire Atlantis. Yes - we were just here for coral spawning - the (often mass) reproductive event when corals release their eggs and sperm.
