作者 国家卫生计生委 来源 国家卫生计生委网站 日期 2015-05-31. 2013 年5月23日，世界卫生组织(WHO)将这种新型冠状病毒感染疾病命名为“中东呼吸综合征”(Middle East Respiratory Syndrome，MERS)。 中东呼吸综合征冠状病毒受体同SARS完全不同，SARS冠状病毒受体为血管紧张素转换酶 2(angiotensin-converting enzyme 2，ACE2),表达该受体的细胞主要位于人的肺部组织，而人的上呼吸道组织很少分布。 中东呼吸综合征冠状病毒受体为二肽基肽酶4(Dipeptidyl peptidase 4，DPP4, 也称为CD26)，该受体与ACE2类似，主要分布于人深部呼吸道组织，可以部分解释中东呼吸综合征冠状病毒临床症状严重性。 截至到2014年7月23日，已在中东地区(9个 沙特、阿联酋、约旦、卡塔尔、科威特、阿曼、也门、黎巴嫩和伊朗)、欧洲(6个 法国、德国、意大利、英国、希腊和荷兰)、非洲(3个 突尼斯、埃及和阿尔及利亚)、亚洲(2个 马来西亚、菲律宾)与美洲(1个 美国)等21个国家报告病例。
