Kristen's Oceanography: Ice Phases
http://kristen-wyckoff.blogspot.com/2010/10/ice-phases.html
Sunday, October 24, 2010. Figure One. North Pole. Figure Two. South Pole. Figure Three. Iceberg. Figure Four. Seasonal Ice Shifting and Speed Changes. For millions of years, the north and south poles have existed, controlling the amount of water in the world ocean. The icebergs are chunks of ice that have broken off from the polar ice caps. Wednesday, October 20, 2010. North and South Polar Ice Caps. The poles go through cycles of ice advance and retreat every year depending on the season. However, it is the average diminishing ice concentrations that trouble scientists. Presented in the video (link below) are two years of ice concentration data from the NASA QuikSCAT satellite. NOAA uses this data to observe major trends in ice concentration. Polar Ice Fluctuations (Video). Saturday, October 16, 2010. K= attenuation coefficient (meters -1).

Oceanography- Clay: Hypsographic Curves: What are they and how are they useful?
http://oceanographyclay1987.blogspot.com/2010/09/hypsographic-curves-what-are-they-and.html
Monday, September 13, 2010. Hypsographic Curves: What are they and how are they useful? A Hypsographic curve is a graphical representation of the depth of a body of water at certain intervals.Hypsographic curves are used to understand the depth and the curvature of a lake or a pond. The volume of the lake can also be garnered from the hypsographic curve by averaging the layers or slices of the curve. Chart 1 is the plot of depth vs. area of a Lake. Chart 2 is the depth vs. volume of the same lake.

Rood's ENB 220 Class Blog 2010. Saturday, November 6, 2010. Environmental Sensitivity Index maps. We will begin to examine estuarine systems very soon. In the meantime, please post a blog on ESI (Environmental Sensitivity Index) Maps. Post an example of an ESI map for the marine zone of your choice. I will focus in class on ESI maps in the Gulf of Mexico as they relate to the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill Event. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Environmental Sensitivity Index maps. http://kristen-wyckoff.blogspot.com/2010/10/light-attenuation-for-various.html
Monday, October 11, 2010. Light Attenuation for Various Wavelenghts of Color in Water. Below is a chart that shows the attenuation of different wavelenghts of light in water. The numbers were calculated using Windows Excel by using the equation:. Iz= intensity of the light at a depth of Z meters. Io= Intensity of the light at the surface. K= Attenuation coefficient (meters -1). Figure One. Table of Light Attenuation.. 65279;. Figure Two. Graph of Iz/Io Vs. Z.. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Oceanography- Clay: Waves that just don't fit in... Rogue Waves
http://oceanographyclay1987.blogspot.com/2010/12/waves-that-just-dont-fit-in-rogue-waves.html
Wednesday, December 8, 2010. Waves that just don't fit in. Rogue Waves. Rogue waves. Not a good thing for a small boat. Due to the quick and violent nature of the rogue wave, estimates of how many sailors have lost their lives to them is unknown, however rogue waves have been implicated in sever ship losses. Rogue wave. Even a problem for bigger boats. Rogue waves have surfaced not only in the ocean, but also in movies like "The Perfect Storm" and "The Poseidon Adventure". View my complete profile.
