Of Books and Boys: May 2015
http://ofbooksandboys.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Of Books and Boys. A blog about books I'm reading and boys I'm raising. Friday, May 29, 2015. Book Review: King of the Mild Frontier. When my young-at-heart book club offered up a memoir by YA novelist Chris Crutcher, I told them to brace themselves for foul language. Hmm. Where did that come from? I couldn't remember a single title I had read by him but seemed to remember reading him over a decade ago. I just had it in my mind that he used foul language in his books. Wednesday, May 27, 2015. Trevor woul...

Of Books and Boys. A blog about books I'm reading and boys I'm raising. Sunday, August 2, 2015. Rainbow Rowell is a popular name in YA fiction circles. The author of the highly-acclaimed novel, Eleanor and Park. She captures a significant number of readers. Personally, even though I thought Eleanor and Park. Was well-written, I didn't care for it as much as the masses. I recall it was full of expletives and teens behaving badly (similar to John Green's characters in his highly-acclaimed novel, Paper Towns.

Of Books and Boys. A blog about books I'm reading and boys I'm raising. Monday, August 10, 2015. I was privileged to work through this workbook. During my time at camp. In the introduction to the workbook it says:. Thank you for wanting to live a better story. We believe your story was a blank page given to you by God and to write a great story on that page is a noble pursuit and a gift to the world.". There were several interesting thoughts presented:. When you begin to live a better story, people will ...

All Roads Lead To New Glarus. All Roads Lead To New Glarus. Chosen To Stand For Such A Time As This. July 22, 2015. I don’t know how to feel. And nothing is really anyone’s fault anymore. The criminal is conditioned. If everyone is sick. Then is the well person now considered the one with a problem? No one is to blame…. Your love is mistaken for hatred. Your freedom for bondage. Your acceptance for intolerance. And it will get worse before it gets better. So what do you have to say for yourself, Believer?

All Roads Lead To New Glarus. All Roads Lead To New Glarus. July 9, 2015. I sat in an auditorium chair; nervous but expectant. This was the first writer’s conference that afforded me appointments with publishers, agents and published authors. Fifteen minutes. How could I possibly communicate my ideas in a mere fifteen minutes? I sat in a chair next to Suzie Eller. This was different than the other meetings, because we belonged to the same community. The blogging community. I felt dizzy. How did this ...

Friday, February 19, 2010. The Higher Power of Lucky. I was a little confused when I read this book. I think I will read it again some day. This story is of a girl, Lucky, who really does live in the middle of nowhere. Lucky worries that she is not really wanted. This leads to some adventure and discovery. I think I liked it, but I'm not sure. It was too confusing. Do adults like it? February 21, 2010 at 1:42 PM. February 21, 2010 at 1:52 PM. Waiting for Normal by Leslie Connor. Of Books and Bicycles. Sunday, January 1, 2017 · 11:01 pm. 2016 in Reading: Part 1. I am currently in the middle of a fairly lengthy holiday journey across the country to visit with family, so my usual round-up of my year in reading is late and will be quick. But I want to crunch all the numbers as usual, so here we go! Audiobooks: 6. I focused more on podcasts than audiobooks this year, which has been great, as I love podcasts … but I love audiobooks too. I wrote about this dilemma here. One each by aut...

Torsdag 13 augusti 2015.

Of Books and Blooms. If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need." - Cicero. January 11, 2017. Winterizing Your Mind, courtesy of Vivian Swift. I make my resolutions and goals, I put on multiple sweaters, I make soup. I put laminated snowflakes up on all the windows, just to give us all (me) something pretty and interesting to look at. Somehow I get through it every year, but not very gracefully. More like stoically. It was one of my Christmas presents, and I was so happy to see it!

Of Books and Bugs. Musings on the near at hand. June 13, 2015. June 13, 2015. Creeping Charlie in our yard, sprayed by our neighbor June 2015. Last year a newly married couple moved in next door. One of the first things they did was cut down trees, tear up their yard, and put down sod. Suggesting to the young man of the house the option of perennial grasses, he quipped that he’d really prefer concrete across the entire lot. But they’d be good for insects. So why, as a culture, do we do this? Everyone is ...
