Monday, February 16, 2015. Abigail Stephens - Murderer. Thomas Probert was the jailer in Mt. Sterling for ten years from approximately 1866 to his death in 1876. Family Matters: A Man of Many Talents
https://jonesfamilymatters.blogspot.com/2015/02/a-man-of-many-talents.html
Tuesday, February 17, 2015. A Man of Many Talents. Transcription: Mt. Sterling Sentinel, October 30, 1875. After finding this article, I had a lot of questions:. 1) Where did Thomas find time to plant five acres of Irish potatoes? 2) Does the fact that he grew Irish potatoes support the theory that Thomas is of Irish descent? 3) Who was this man? If anything has become apparent to me, it is that Thomas was not one-dimensional. Over his lifetime he pursued so many interests. Thomas H. Probert. Family is i...

Family Matters: Thomas Cannot Be Put in a Box
https://jonesfamilymatters.blogspot.com/2015/02/thomas-cannot-be-put-in-box.html
Thursday, February 26, 2015. Thomas Cannot Be Put in a Box. But I am afraid I would bore you with the details. I am in the possession of a LOT more documentation about Thomas and his very public life. Suffice it to say that our ancestor was multi-dimensional. He cannot be "put in a box" and easily defined. The story of Thomas has not yet been completed - but I hope you, like me, have a better understanding of this man I am proud to call my ancestor. Submitted by Kathleen Jones Hellmann Reed. Family Matters: How Are We Related?
https://jonesfamilymatters.blogspot.com/2015/02/how-are-we-related.html
Saturday, February 28, 2015. How Are We Related? My brother, Tom, asked me to remind him how we are related to Thomas Probert. My brother, Dan, asked me what was it about Thomas that made me want to write about him? In addition, he wanted to know how I decide which ancestor to write about. Good questions - especially for extended family who may be reading this blog - and I appreciate all of you. Mary Elizabeth Dimond Probert. Thomas H. Probert. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Family Matters: What Happened to Kate? Part 1
https://jonesfamilymatters.blogspot.com/2015/02/what-happened-to-kate-part-1.html
Saturday, February 21, 2015. What Happened to Kate? Thomas Probert died of cirrhosis of the liver on October 9, 1876. His widow, Kate, was only 39 years old. I have no knowledge of when Thomas recognized that he was ill and what impact this knowledge may have had on his wife and two young children still at home. However, there are a couple of records that give me a clue. There are some clues in the paperwork. Thomas H. Probert. February 23, 2015 at 11:16 AM. Join the conversation. Comments are apprec...

Family Matters: Thomas Dies at Age 52
https://jonesfamilymatters.blogspot.com/2015/02/thomas-dies-at-age-52.html
Thursday, February 19, 2015. Thomas Dies at Age 52. Grave marker at MacPhelah Cemetery. T H Probert died at the young age of 52 on October 9th, 1876. He died of cirrhosis of the liver. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Not only was he involved in the liquor trade from an early age, he lived during a time of incredible stress. What could be more stressful than the Civil War which took place in his early 40s? Thomas H. Probert, Date of Death, October 9th, 1876. Apparently the informant, most likely Kate, w...
