Abbey Fields and St. Mary's Abbey. St Mary's Priory (eventually Abbey) dates back to around 1124 when an Augustinian Priory was founded by Geoffrey de Clinton (who also built Kenilworth Castle). As with many Priorys of the time, the monks were given substantial land and were entitled to enforce the law as well as to collect taxes. Harlech Castle in Wales. Visiting the fairly ruined Harlech Castle which is situated in Gwynedd, North-West Wales. Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this small medieval castle is perched on a small hill and overlooks Harlech Town with it's beaches and beautiful coastline. It is located just off the A496 at LL46 2YH. The castle has a parking area close to the entrance which is Pay and Display and there are several other small car parks nearbye as well.
