Shots from the hip: March 2013
http://shotsfromthehip.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html
Shots from the hip. Saturday, March 16, 2013. The friends in the room. I've been reminded of some past. Folks I know. They've been haunting my life over the past few weeks. Like they were around me, behind me and making me think of them. Unbidden they've managed to insert themselves back into my life. Not for any specific reason that I know of. Except for one. My dad. It was two years ago. Last month that he passed. He always beat the odds and the prognostications of the doctors. Volunteer Army (VolAr)&#...

Shots from the hip: Spring
http://shotsfromthehip.blogspot.com/2013/05/spring.html
Shots from the hip. Monday, May 27, 2013. Spring in North Central Vermont has come and gone, or is finally on the way out. It's 38 degrees out at the moment and there's a frost warning out for this evening. At least it stopped raining. For the moment. This winter was a real winter and the Rampaging Snow Beast saw a lot of use this winter. Not like last winter where the brand new snow blower sat in the garage, trotted out but a handful of times. So ist das Leben. It's a problem up here. Well, not exactly,...

With His Tongue Planted Firmly in His Cheek: Okay, okay already. . .
http://lionskip.blogspot.com/2015/08/okay-okay-already.html
No, this isn't the entomology department. Yes, it really bugs me. Sunday, August 9, 2015. Okay, okay already. . . So today is my 4th day in the E.U. and I am learning to dislike it already. Do you think I would get a response when I sent them a bill for posting on my blog? That post many of you read here earlier was a make up. This is today's post . . .and maybe tomorrow's, because it's a travel day. We've decided to hide from my suitcase because it is being such a $# ). Then I went shopping. Some trips ...

Flightdeck Friday (I): Ave Atque Vale – Three Years On | Steeljaw Scribe

Steeljaw Scribe – The Blog. What IS a Steeljaw? Steeljaw Scribe – The Blog. What IS a Steeljaw? Flightdeck Friday (I): Ave Atque Vale – Three Years On. Today’s Flightdeck Friday is a repost from the day when our extended family here learned of Lex’s passing out at NAS Fallon. I lost a friend today. Have lost a friend, a father, husband — a comrade in arms. Fellow aviator and blogger-at-arms, Neptunus Lex. Online. Whether it was a semi-fictional account of a young aviator wrestling with carrier flight...

MUSINGS: 16 JAN 13
http://jmawelsh.blogspot.com/2013/01/16-jan-13.html
Wednesday, January 16, 2013. Been a long time now . A lot has happened. I'll catch everyone up as time goes on. No time right now. TINS a War Story! Satisfied with his marksmanship, Willie pulled up his trousers and climbed down to be hauled away to the Provost Marshal's office. He received only non-judicial punishment here. Everyone who was told of the circumstances broke up with laughter. Nobody could be serious . not even the 1SG. A true ASA War Story. TINS quality . forgive the pun. Hope you enjoy wh...

Naval Air Cowman: March 2015
http://prairieadventure.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Thoughts, observations, sea stories and ideas from a former sailor and lifelong rancher. Tuesday, March 31, 2015. Corpsman Chronicles IV: Major Major Trauma. I stopped by the local junior wallyworld yesterday to see if they'd kept their promise to restock the La Croix. Lime flavored sparkling water. They hadn't. Anyway, back in 1969, whenever I managed to scrape up a dime, I'd head over to Emerson Grocery and get me a pie. Chocolate was my fave (and not exactly a fruit pie, eh? 1969 Remember it well.

Shots from the hip: December 2012
http://shotsfromthehip.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html
Shots from the hip. Monday, December 31, 2012. Having said that, my bride and her mom along with others of the All Girls Spending Team (hat tip to Lex) head out for the Black Friday Follies. One of several activities that are appropos of the season. It reminded me of the Kristkindl Markts in Germany sans the gluehwein and gemuetlichkeit that are the hallmark of the real thing. Again, with many happy memories of previous times in previous locales. That would be one way to look at it. No, we aren't as clos...

Shots from the hip: May you live in interesting times
http://shotsfromthehip.blogspot.com/2013/08/may-you-live-in-interesting-times.html
Shots from the hip. Sunday, August 18, 2013. May you live in interesting times. That is an ancient Chinese curse. As I find myself once again relocating our house and home, I have to agree, for as much as I have many things about Vermont that I do not enjoy, I've discovered many things that I'll miss. Chief among them having a life, a routine, and a comfortable rut that I enjoy. I know things about here and they know me here. And Northfield, Vermont is a small town. Actually, a village. And discovered th...

Shots from the hip: Time and tide wait for no man
http://shotsfromthehip.blogspot.com/2013/03/time-and-tide-wait-for-no-man.html
Shots from the hip. Wednesday, March 06, 2013. Time and tide wait for no man. A year ago today he was still posting. We were still reading, discussing, chatting. Life was normal, my morning online routine started with him. I checked back again over the course of the day, as usual. It was during the thread of "Streamer", during our chattering, that the first harbingers of something amiss came to light. Niggling chunks of news that were unconfirmed while we mused over their meaning. He had to work to get b...
