Old Man Farm: December 2006

http://oldmanfarm.blogspot.com/2006_12_01_archive.html

A chronicle of the development of Old Man Farm, an experiment in sustainability. Monday, December 18, 2006. New Growth in the Heart of Winter. When I started this blog last summer, I was longing for many things - connection, a creative outlet, a place to share the story of our work here at Old Man Farm. I imagined that blogging would bring me closer to friends and family, encourage other people striving to live more lightly on the earth, and give me time to reflect on our experiences. Old Man Farm: July 2006

http://oldmanfarm.blogspot.com/2006_07_01_archive.html

A chronicle of the development of Old Man Farm, an experiment in sustainability. Sunday, July 23, 2006. Just wanted to clarify that the School Gardening post was actually posted on July 23. Blogger does not seem to want to let me change the date. Links to this post. Tuesday, July 11, 2006. School Gardening - a Growing Adventure. It was lots of fun, except for bedtime. A bit like playing a giant game of Whack-a-Mole. So - back to the topic of School Gardening. Most school garden programs target city schoo...

Old Man Farm: Fragile

http://oldmanfarm.blogspot.com/2006/09/fragile.html

A chronicle of the development of Old Man Farm, an experiment in sustainability. Thursday, September 28, 2006. I've been feeling a lot like this baby meadow vole this month: as if I'm a tiny, vulnerable being in the grip of an incomprehensible giant. Part of me is tempted to try and write the following as a comedy. Perhaps, in another month or two (or year, or decade), it will even FEEL funny. but at the moment, I think I'm going to be honest and say that it's been one hell of a month. Being without a ve...

Old Man Farm: August 2006

http://oldmanfarm.blogspot.com/2006_08_01_archive.html

A chronicle of the development of Old Man Farm, an experiment in sustainability. Monday, August 07, 2006. I wanted to find a beautiful picture of a jellyfish for today's blog entry, but there aren't too many of those on Old Man Farm (unless you count ME at the end of a long, long day). I chose another of the Farmer's stunning photos instead, hoping it will convey something about the beauty, the fragility, and the value of seemingly lowly creatures. Mom," he said, "they're killing the jellyfish.". This ti...

The sky: Bearless

http://colinsky.blogspot.com/2008/06/bearless.html

Monday, June 16, 2008. No bears. No rain either. Just a bit of sunburn and sixty five thousand blackfly bites. Mom was less than amused. Captain Oreo and I had a ball. We've decided it's an annual event. Posted by Colin at 9:52 AM. I'm a professor of psychology interested in space, place, planning, the environment, food, my six kids, adoption, and basically everything else. But in some other order. View my complete profile. The sky: Not dying

http://colinsky.blogspot.com/2008/07/not-dying.html

Saturday, July 05, 2008. Merely filled with a collection of interesting crystals and stones. I didn't realize that a part of the process of becoming a fossil is actually becoming a fossil. So my new mantra, at least for the couple of weeks it will take me to forget all the stern admonitions from my doctor, shall be that a rolling stone gathers no stones. Posted by Colin at 12:39 AM. The sky: We plan. God laughs.

http://colinsky.blogspot.com/2008/08/we-plan-god-laughs.html

Sunday, August 17, 2008. We plan. God laughs. Not the weekend I had planned. Not by a mile. After a fabulous day spent at the market and the park, patting ourselves on the back for having extended our vacation for one more carefree day, I received a devastating email with the news that a close colleague and collaborator had died of a sudden and unexpected heart attack. Yes, this just a few days after my own scare. Posted by Colin at 9:04 PM. It's got to be a very quiet, solitary loss that no one can know.

The sky: Letting the days go by

http://colinsky.blogspot.com/2008/11/letting-days-go-by.html

Tuesday, November 11, 2008. Letting the days go by. I've been wondering today: when did I decide that I had to be the one to do absolutely everything? Why do I have to do every experiment that occurs to me. Why do I have to write every article? Is it so important that I have a chance to write another book? Is this all really about the fear of death? Or is it about something else? Posted by Colin at 11:01 PM. I'm sorry I've been absent. It seems you're answering every question you ask, yet don't know it.

The sky: Another new leaf. Another one.

http://colinsky.blogspot.com/2008/08/another-new-leaf-another-one.html

Saturday, August 16, 2008. Another new leaf. Another one. Just back from vacation and catching up on all the things that were too hard to cope with on my tiny ASUS EEE screen. I love that little device, but sometimes i just find the touchy keyboard and way too stiff mouse button thingie makes me want to put it away and read a book. A good thing, of course. It's got to change, and - sorry - it's going to get talked about here. Posted by Colin at 12:22 AM. View my complete profile. Follow me on Twitter.

The sky: Still breathing

http://colinsky.blogspot.com/2008/10/still-breathing.html

Sunday, October 26, 2008. I have to say that it fascinates me to see that there are still regular visitors to this more or less moribund blog. Just so you know, I'm alive and well and living here. I doubt that I'll post on this old blogger site very often - there just won't be time to keep it up. Eventually I think I will just take the whole thing down, but not until I've had time to archive all the posts as I think there was some good writing here from time to time. http://colinsky.blogspot.com/2008/07/hot-as-hades.html

Tuesday, July 08, 2008. And yet still I've galumphed down the trail and earned the beer I'll sip tonight at the James Taylor concert. Posted by Colin at 10:03 AM. http://colinsky.blogspot.com/2006_11_01_archive.html

Tuesday, November 28, 2006. Posted by Colin at 11:10 PM. Monday, November 27, 2006. I had an interesting revelation a few days ago when I was, once again, forced to drive to work because of a tight time knot that someone had made for me. When I drive home, even though the drive itself only takes about 10 minutes, I'm not actually at. There's definitely something tired, tragic, and beaten about much of the place these days. http://colinsky.blogspot.com/2006_09_01_archive.html

Thursday, September 28, 2006. Ok Dad. You're a pretty smart guy. You saw what was coming. You weren't all that optimistic about our chances. So WHAT THE FUCK? That's really why you brought me here? And we did agree that you're smart? As bad as all of that is, it doesn't compare to what happens when their eyes open, they fixate you with a deep, knowing stare and they ask for an answer or two. Old Man Experiences

Friday, April 16, 2010. Tuesday, February 9, 2010. Not much out of the ordinary has happened since Ragbrai. Although a new route for the 2010 Ragbrai. During March to experience a small taste of the "snowbird" life to see if we actually would enjoy doing something like that after we retire. It seems intriguing. Saturday, August 8, 2009. I spent the week after ragbrai. At my mother"s in Sioux City,Iowa. It was great. Got to spend some time with mu mother helping with a few. Great memories of growing up ba...

Old Man Farm

A chronicle of the development of Old Man Farm, an experiment in sustainability. Friday, January 26, 2007. Thank You, WWOOFers! Volunteering their energy in exchange for room, board, and whatever experiences we could share with them. So, how have WWOOFers helped us? Ashley contributed his formal design training and left us with the plans for a new hen house (the building of which may be a job for WWOOFers to come! Lightened our spirits.
