Turn off the A1 at the Leeming Bar/Bedale junction and follow the brown signs for Thorpe Perrow, continue past Thorpe Perrow, through Well and follow the signs for West Tanfield. Go straight across the roundabout in West Tanfield and cross the river. After about 1 mile take the first right (signposted Mickley). Ignore the first gate with a lodge and continue towards Mickley for about 1 mile till you come to a long wall on your right and gates on a right-hand corner opposite a cottage.
