Devil's Thumb Golf Club Turf Care Department: June 2015
http://devilsthumbgc.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
Devil's Thumb Golf Club Turf Care Department. Thursday, June 18, 2015. This area on #6 fairway has always suffered. 6 is one of my favorite holes but when it was designed it did not really take into consideration the flow of traffic. Most cart traffic is drawn to this narrow bottleneck because it is the path of least resistance. Unfortunately this constant beat down over the same area causes major compaction and turf decline as a result. High: 98 °F. High: 97 °F. High: 100 °F. High: 101 °F. Quick explana...

Devil's Thumb Golf Club Turf Care Department: Poa annua growth regulation
http://devilsthumbgc.blogspot.com/2015/04/poa-annua-growth-regulation.html
Devil's Thumb Golf Club Turf Care Department. Friday, April 17, 2015. Poa annua growth regulation. It's been an interesting week with 30 mph winds on Tuesday and Wednesday followed by 2 straight days of snow. Every year in the spring, and to a lesser extent in the fall, I get the same comment; man, the Poa sure is poppin. This year. In reality it's not much different from when I first started here. Sure the population has grown slightly, but it's been an insignificant increase. Ian Peluso, CGCS. Oakland ...

Devil's Thumb Golf Club Turf Care Department: July 2015
http://devilsthumbgc.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Devil's Thumb Golf Club Turf Care Department. Friday, July 10, 2015. This has been a fantastic week weather wise in my subjective opinion coming from a person who HATES heat and dreams of precipitation in our arid environment more often than not. We have had cooler temps in the mid 70's to mid 80's and .71 inches of rain spread out through the week since Sunday, mostly coming at night so play has not been interrupted. The predominant species of moss on golf course greens is Silvery-Thread Moss. It is...

Devil's Thumb Golf Club Turf Care Department: Reclaiming Edges/Rounds 4 Research
http://devilsthumbgc.blogspot.com/2015/06/reclaiming-edges.html
Devil's Thumb Golf Club Turf Care Department. Friday, June 5, 2015. Reclaiming Edges/Rounds 4 Research. Quick explanation as to what the blue lines are on the tees. Over the course of a season the edges of one playing surface (i.e. greens, tees, etc.) tend to get mowed into the adjacent surface in some areas. Occasionally I need to bring the edges back to where they are supposed to be. This is accomplished by painting the border for the mowers to follow, connect the dots. About Rounds 4 Research. Devil's Thumb Golf Club Turf Care Department: February 2015
http://devilsthumbgc.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Devil's Thumb Golf Club Turf Care Department. Monday, February 23, 2015. About 6 inches of snow has fallen in the past 24 hours, pretty good for Delta. I think that's the most I have seen fall in one shot in the 4 winters I have been here. It brings our total up to a gigantic 8 inches for the season. Ian Peluso, CGCS. Friday, February 6, 2015. Devil's Thumb Golf Club Turf Care Department. Thursday, November 6, 2014. As I have said before, a lot of the work we do in the fall is actually geared towards healthy turf growth for the following season. This is one example of that process. Ian Peluso, CGCS. Devil's Thumb Golf Club Turf Care Department: September 2014
http://devilsthumbgc.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
Devil's Thumb Golf Club Turf Care Department. Tuesday, September 23, 2014. Over the past 2 days the golf course has received a half inch of rain. When this happens and the bunkers fill with water we will generally let them sit for a day and drain on their own. Some puddles will still be left the following day but they are much more manageable for our crew to pump out. Ian Peluso, CGCS. Friday, September 12, 2014. Damage from hydraulic leak on 18 fairway.
