March moments →. April 8, 2011. Panda fever is in the air and so naturally, panda anything is too. This is Japan after all! The other day as I was walking past Anderson Bakery I noticed people eagerly queuing for something. For curiosity’s sake I had to see what the fuss was about and discovered that it was the panda loaf below which people were lining up for. Only 100 loaves are baked each day for the lucky. The Spinning Top →. May 15, 2011. Sometimes one needs to escape the concrete jungle of Tokyo. A sunny day during Golden Week was perfect for a hiking trip to the Miura Coast, which is south of Yokohama on the Kanagawa shoreline. Walking, walking and more walking along the lonely rocky shoreline, discovering mysterious dark caves and sea creatures laying ramen-like eggs, crawling over a broken bridge and finally running after a bus in the dark. Miura Coast →. May 9, 2011. There is so much good food in Tokyo and I am even more convinced after some wonderful eating I recently did. My lunches usually consist of simple home-made bento that I eat in my studio at the university so a couple of special lunches in one week was quite a treat! Firstly, it was a Golden Week lunch at Annon Cook. I want that onigiri book! Lentil curry with brown rice. Tofu and red bean cheesecake. The second was a Saturday lunch with a couple of Japanese friends at Coulis.

Kiired ajad koolis ning lähenev lõputööde näitus jaanuari lõpus ei lasknud mul ka talvevaheaja saabudes lõdvestuda ning arvasin, et seekord lähevad jõulud nagu niuhti mööda, ilma erilist pühademeeleolu loomata. Reede ja laupäev möödusid väga rahulikult näsides head ja paremat, mis eestist saabus, ning koolitööst väljapuhates. Pühapäevaks olime koos Mikiga kutsunud külla mõned sõbrad ja kõigile sõnad peale lugenud, et nad isetehtud roa kaasa võtaksid. Kohal ta oligi, see va. Jõulumeeleolu, palju vanu.

Esimene projekt uuel semestril. Üsna pea peale sakurate imetlemist sattusin jälle Kamakurasse, seekord raualiiva korjama. Parim viis rauamaagi korjamiseks jaapanis on rannas magnetiga liiva seast rauapuru koguda. kamakura liiv on rauasisalduse tõttu lausa tume ning vähem kui tunni ajaga saime ca 5kg kokku kogutud. Nii jäi meil aega näha vibulaskjaid pidurõivais ning külastada ühte imeilusat väikest galeriid lähedalasuva künka otsas. Hetkel erinevate mangade assortiid. Esimene projekt uuel semestril.

Hubert, välisüliõpilane saksamaalt jäi ka piparkooke küpsetades arhitektuurile - oma erialale truuks ning tegi piparkook-tellistest maja (haus saksa keeles tähendab maja). Viimased nädalad siin on osutunud kõige raskemateks. Jaapani sõprade käest kuulsin koguaeg hirmujutte suurest tõenäosusest, et millalgi lähima paarikümne aasta jooksul tuleb suur maavärin. Kuid 9 magnituudilist värinat ei oodanud keegi. Arvestades maavärina magnituudi, olime emaga õnnega koos, et vaid ehmatusega pääsesime. Ema oli just eelmisel päeval Tokyosse saabunud ning maavärinatega, mida Tokyos kergemas vormis pidevalt tunda võib, mitte harjunud inimesena, oli see talle väga hirmuäratav kogemus.

Minu uus lemmikpaik kirsiõitevaatluseks on Nakameguro jõe ääres. Parasjagu kirsside õitsemise ajal oli Tokyot külastamas Shirley sugulane Doyle, kellele Tokyo tuuri oli vaja teha. Seeläbi jõudsime ühe nädala jooksul Nakamegurosse, Kamakurasse (parasjagu Budda sünnipäeval, mis templites suurim püha) ning Ghibli animafilmistuudio muuseumisse. Selle aasta sakura oli väga ilus!
