One Small Conversation

Thursday, June 30, 2011. This bothered me for most of the way through the book: Why did the Trojans (and especially their neighbors) insist on protecting Paris and Helen. The Trojans should have just given Helen back and maybe surrendered Paris to Menelaus for punishment (death). The whole war seems pretty pointless. The other kings from around Troy especially confuse me. Why did they even show up to defend Troy? Were they looking for glory? Or did they expect future help from Troy if they won? Achilles ...

One Small Conversation: February 2011

http://onesmallconversation.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html

Tuesday, February 8, 2011. Edit: I forgot to mention that Menelaus was the king of the Spartans. Remember Thermopylae? Yeah, those Spartans. 454 "'My good brother' answered Hector 'you fight bravely, and no man with any justice can make light of your doings in battle. But you are careless and willfully remiss.'". Another, much more striking difference is exhibited in the description of a battle scene. Monday, February 7, 2011. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). There was an error in this gadget. Simple theme&#4...

Thursday, August 26, 2010. 761 "I must reiterate that you can set no store by your education in childhood and youth, no matter how good it was. Childhood and youth are no time to get an education. The most that we can hope for from these chaotic and uninteresting periods of life is that during them we shall be set on the right path, the path of realizing our human possibilities through intellectual effort and aesthetic appreciation.". One Small Conversation: Odd Notes, ktl.*

http://onesmallconversation.blogspot.com/2011/06/odd-notes-and-ktl.html

Thursday, June 30, 2011. Odd Notes, ktl.*. The devotion to the duties of a host in Greek culture is wonderful. Achilles gets up himself to cook a meal for Odysseus and Ajax even though he clearly had servants who could do it for him. It is a rare instance of Achilles humbling himself to serve. Achilles would not be a memorable as he was if he did not listen to his father, but he would have been a better man. Maybe he knew that and decided that he would discard respect for glory. One Small Conversation: April 2011

http://onesmallconversation.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html

Wednesday, April 6, 2011. 511 Jove: "If I see anyone acting apart and helping either Trojans or Danaans he shall be beaten inordinately ere he come back again to Olympus". First, I have to say that the threat of 'inordinate beatings' is humorous to me. Jove's shows his unfaithfulness later that same day when Agamemnon pleads with him to spare the Achaean ships. Again we see that you can buy off the gods as long as you sacrifice regularly. Also, that is one huge bird. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

One Small Cogwheel

Just one small cogwheel. but still valued in God's design! I Refuse To Go Quietly! Thursday, 3 October 2013. Don't tell me - show me! It's such a long time since I posted anything here, you'd think I'd abandoned it! Something I came across recently concerned faith and action. It was a quote in a magazine: "Don't tell me about your god with your words. Show me about your god with your actions.". Steve Maraboli 'Life, Truth and Being Free.'). Now, at last, I'm hoping to start volunteering with a. For a num...

One Small Corner of the Universe

Sunday, February 25, 2007. This is my last post on Blogger, and my first post on my all new blog. Call me a follower, a copycat, a bandwagon-jumper- whatever you call me, please keep visiting, and if you link to my site, please adjust your site accordingly. The truth about the change is that I don't like being forced into things. I have a hard enough time with change as it is, but when someone says, "You must! You have no choice! No, the truth is, some higher-ups found out about this. What I know is that...

One Small Corner of the Universe | It's all a matter of perspective.

One Small Corner of the Universe. It's all a matter of perspective. My name is Heather Williams. A long time ago I started this blog for fun. It became a source of personal writing practice and development, as well as a place to document the days of my life as a teacher, grad school student, and single mother to the baby girl I conceved via artificial insemination with donor sperm. I connected with many amazing people here, and found a writer’s voice I never knew I had. Tbgdee at gmail dot com. Random Wr...

One small daily "PEACE" of art- my devotional prayer blog

Why the PEACE SIGN? One simple reason is that the PEACE SIGN is a simple icon and easy to paint, and communicates my desire to create and share something positive. Since I will be creating 365 pieces of “peace” artwork over the upcoming year, “easy and simple” is a necessity for sure, don’t you think? Thursday, August 1, 2013. Happy to announce that there is a Peace Art Exhibit this month at St. John's Lutheran Church in downtown Des Moines! Friday, June 28, 2013. Thursday, May 23, 2013. Sold four togeth...
