a new garden! | Maggie's Farm
https://onmaggiesfarm.wordpress.com/2014/04/14/a-new-garden
April 14, 2014 in gardening. Clearing Space for the New Garden. Well, it isn’t the new garden yet. Consider this the before picture. We cleared out lots of trees and bushes, and will need to make raised beds and a deer fence, as well as move that Japanese maple that you can see on the right. Lots of work to do! The new garden: still a work in progress…. Latest project: honey bees. Gardening with my girls. The demise of the hornworm. Broccoli: row cover results & recipe. One wonderful year with the girls.

Gardening with my girls. June 14, 2011 in berries. The girls are great strawberry pickers, and we have enjoyed lots of strawberry treats this year. We water (sometimes the path or our sister) and pick lots of flowers for the house. And we always take time to watch the bumble bees and honey bees, and thank them for their hard work. The new garden: still a work in progress…. Latest project: honey bees. Gardening with my girls. The demise of the hornworm. Broccoli: row cover results & recipe.
winter is over! | Maggie's Farm

April 30, 2010 in gardening. Above is a picture of our snowgirl (Maxine) who got buried in the unrelenting snow this winter. The girls would wave at Maxine from the house as she gradually got covered in new snow. Bring on the summer! The new garden: still a work in progress…. Latest project: honey bees. Gardening with my girls. The demise of the hornworm. Broccoli: row cover results & recipe. One wonderful year with the girls. Lettuce from last year. First crop of garlic. On a new garden!

By Edward C. Smith. A straightforward, no-nonsense approach to vegetable gardening. Smith hasn’t steered me wrong yet, and this is the first book I consult when I plan something new. Sorry, this section is still under construction! The new garden: still a work in progress…. Latest project: honey bees. Gardening with my girls. The demise of the hornworm. Broccoli: row cover results & recipe. One wonderful year with the girls. Lettuce from last year. First crop of garlic. On a new garden!
latest project: honey bees | Maggie's Farm

Latest project: honey bees. June 14, 2011 in gardening. The top picture is a recent one of the two colonies I have in my backyard. The picture below is just a shot of the bees hanging around the entrance. You can see one bee coming in for a landing with her legs full of pollen (she looks like she has yellow rain boots on). The new garden: still a work in progress…. Latest project: honey bees. Gardening with my girls. The demise of the hornworm. Broccoli: row cover results & recipe. Lettuce from last year.

A Word or Two. March 4, 2015. The protagonist has in her possession a scrap of paper with a paragraph scrawled on it, written by her dad: an argument in favor of having a third baby (her), the argument that convinced her mom (who was not inclined) to have a third child. A Word or Two. Fall christmas decorating: thoughts. The Great Sunflower Project →. New Homes for My Herbs! October 22, 2009. This was a mild fall afternoon, lovely for taking care of things in the garden. My garden has mostly been ‘put to sleep’ for the winter, but I still had a few things to do. I ended up re-potting several of my plants and herbs. Everyone gets a new, roomier home for the winter! By now my raspberry has been pruned and mulched, my sunflower stalks ripped out and composted, the garden b...

A Word or Two. The Great Sunflower Project. And baby makes three →. December 23, 2009. A good way to handle such darkness. I’ve been reading through Jane Austen’s. The past few days, and although it may be dark and wintry outside, when I read I’m transported to the sunshine and greenness and strawberry patches of Donwell Abbey. If there is anyone reading this post, I’d love to hear of your favorite way to eat strawberries. Say hello! And Merry Christmas, everyone. 🙂. December 23, 2009 at 11:32 am.

A Word or Two. And baby makes three. Happy earth day →. Garden Planning for 2010. March 27, 2010. This year my approach to gardening is decidedly more laid-back. Speaking of children, that is a large part of the reason why I will be taking a more laid-back approach to this season. I am halfway through my first pregnancy, with a baby boy due at the very beginning of August. Will be growing bigger and bigger, right along with my flowers and produce. You have at most, what, 40-50 growing seasons? Right now ...

A Word or Two. Garden Planning for 2010. April 22, 2010. I am loving my candy-colored tulips right now. They put up lovely splashes of color against the white siding of the house, and make my little garden bed so cheerful looking. I love that I planted them last October and forgot about them all through the winter, and like loyal little soldiers, they showed up when the days grew long enough and the soil warm enough for them to welcome the spring. In other gardening news, my morning glory seeds are bidin...

A Word or Two. New Homes for My Herbs! Remembering strawberries →. The Great Sunflower Project. October 27, 2009. As I reflect over my summer of gardening, one of the things that brought me the most joy was participating in the Great Sunflower Project. 8211; and I liked that they send you the seeds for free. Sunflower seeds started in newspaper pots. I planted another variety of sunflower as well, some Evening Sun sunflowers (which also have pollen). Bumblebee on evening sun bloom. A Word or Two. Fall christmas decorating: thoughts. September 21, 2009. My life in France. It was harvest time. What says “Harvest” more than a wooden bushel basket brimming with apples of red and gold, on an antique rush-seat chair, next to an antique white-painted canning pantry? Is already a perfect picture of harvest time. Filed under domestic bliss. Tomatoes, Raspberries and Cucumbers. August 30, 2009. Filed under domestic bliss. Late august garden reflections }. The new garden: still a work in progress…. August 21, 2014 in eggplant. But, the good news is that the deer have been kept out by the partially finished fence. Most importantly, we have been enjoying lots of produce! Eggplant and broccoli have done better than I could have ever imagined. Perhaps due to the mild summer here in the mid-atlantic region? We still need to add more cypress beds and finish the fence (and gates). April 14, 2014 in gardening. Clearing Space for the New Garden. The demise of the h...
