Open Building: Catching up with 2010
http://openbuilding.blogspot.com/2010/08/catching-up-with-2010.html
Thoughts on architecture, timber framing, and sustainability. Wednesday, August 04, 2010. Catching up with 2010. One interesting extracurricular project I made this early summer was a bed for some friends of ours. My friend Izzy had a vision for a king size bed frame that involved old timbers as well as plumbing fittings and painted pickets from old staircases. The result was pretty cool:. Bents pegged and stacked and ready to raise-. That's enough to walk on right? The three stories in the back-. Can I ...

Thoughts on architecture, timber framing, and sustainability. Tuesday, November 25, 2008. Here is the site the week before raising with 3 bents assembled and waiting. The coolest feature of the house for me was the timber framed dormer (designed and executed by Brendan) that involved a bunch of compound angles even thought the roof was a 12/12 pitch. . Here is the top of the bent 2 post that will catch a connecting girt, a valley beam, a common rafter, and the dormer gable rafters. . View across the lake-.

Thoughts on architecture, timber framing, and sustainability. Tuesday, November 03, 2009. Between timber framing jobs, I've been taking on some interesting side projects. Here is a bed frame that I made from old cedar fence posts; the clients were into rowing and had a cool old oar that we incorporated into the footboard. I put the last touches on the Outpost at Chip and Catherines' house- a cedar deck and the last of the screening-. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Middletown, CT, United States.

Thoughts on architecture, timber framing, and sustainability. Monday, August 11, 2008. Its been forever since I updated this particular blog- but now that we have moved someplace we will stay for a while, I will try to be a little better at keeping things current, though I'm not sure if I will ever find the time to go back and post about everything that happened last summer while I was at Heartwood. On to the present! I've been working with a small company called the Barnraisers. The first bent put toget...
Open Building: Lyme Barn
http://openbuilding.blogspot.com/2009/11/lyme-barn.html
Thoughts on architecture, timber framing, and sustainability. Friday, November 13, 2009. So this was a while ago, I want to say last Fall- yes because the clients were trying to get in the house be Thanksgiving (which never happened). They could have moved into the barn we raised- it was done in a couple of months! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Middletown, CT, United States. I am a timberframer and current student in the school of Architecture and Engineering at the University of Hartford (CT).

resident aliens: November 2009

Keeping up with Mike, Katharine, James, and Will. Tuesday, November 10, 2009. James recently deigned to help Willy with his reading skills while he was simultaneously watching his new favorite show 'Dinosaur Train' (BTW how did it take this long for someone to finally combine those two? Any parent of a 4 year old boy realizes this is a pure gold recipe). Tuesday, November 03, 2009. Willy as the cutest frog ever. James and Sadie discussing strategy. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Keith and Dorthe's Peanut.

Keeping up with Mike, Katharine, James, and Will. Sunday, June 13, 2010. James and his BFF Sadie have just finished their second year of swim lessons. The program involved two weeks of hour-a-day lessons. Friday was the final lesson. Good times. They were so much better than last year. The first day of this year's session they were a bit like last time, but by the second day they'd surpassed their skill level from last year. In other words: they rocked. Monday, June 07, 2010. Thursday, June 03, 2010.

Keeping up with Mike, Katharine, James, and Will. Monday, May 23, 2011. James first lost tooth! And Willy who is missing nothing. Here is Emily, Willy, Dylan, and James on Easter at Splint and Lydia's, with the bunny heretofore known as "short ears". And finally, the kindergarten program, which was adorable. Though boredom set in for the kids at about 7 minutes in. Here's James- dressed as a skater to deliver his line. When we go skating down the street, we know that spring is in our feet!

Keeping up with Mike, Katharine, James, and Will. Sunday, November 28, 2010. Here is a preview of our Christmas card. I was trying to distract James from running around the house making his brother scream and told him to make some designs for our card- this was the best, a close second was the dinosaur with a hook in its back as a christmas tree ornament. BTW this is Santa being pulled by two 'long necks' (brontasaurus) over our house, in high wind. Also check out the bunk beds. Tooheys in the house.
resident aliens: Willy's eye
http://maierbaby.blogspot.com/2011/01/willys-eye.html
Keeping up with Mike, Katharine, James, and Will. Saturday, January 08, 2011. What a weekend already! Willy went on his first ER trip Friday. After getting slammed at school by another kid (it was an accident), he was listless and not eating or drinking. We called the doctor, who suggested taking him to the ER. So we did. We are thankful that Willy is fine (the doctor checked his eyes, and said if he's not stumbling or throwing up, he will be fine). Bless his little heart and btw the PJs ROCK!

Keeping up with Mike, Katharine, James, and Will. Sunday, August 15, 2010. Introducing Findus and Birthday Bash. We've been planning to get a cat since we moved back from the Netherlands, but it never seemed the right time. As the boys' birthdays approached we heard from a friend with kittens and things quickly fell into place. And Pancakes for Findus. Oh, and did I mention this is where he sleeps? We also held a co-birthday for the boys last weekend. Carlton starts the tree house club. Matt eats a bug.
resident aliens: July 2010

Keeping up with Mike, Katharine, James, and Will. Saturday, July 24, 2010. 50SPF constantly being reapplied-. Great Egret (Ardea Alba) from off our back porch. Mom and Willy after nap time. One of the coolest things from the week was Willy deciding to potty train himself. Our efforts had been pretty laissez faire of late (i.e. doing pretty much nothing) and he just suddenly made up his mind that he was done with diapers. Two weeks now and 0 accidents. Invasion of the coffee filter clowns. A less successf...

http://maierbaby.blogspot.com/2011/01/see-our-new-bookshelves.html
Keeping up with Mike, Katharine, James, and Will. Wednesday, January 12, 2011. SEE our new bookshelves. Over at Kat's writing blog. This was just one of the little projects Mike managed to eke out over his break. We are anticipating a big ole snow day tomorrow. It's been crazy to hear that a lot of the east coast has been dealing with snow the last few days. Ahhh the cabin fever is really setting in! Your hubby is so talented! resident aliens: Reading Rainbow
http://maierbaby.blogspot.com/2011/01/reading-rainbow.html
Keeping up with Mike, Katharine, James, and Will. Wednesday, January 12, 2011. James has been making leaps and bounds this year with reading in Kindergarten. Mostly he just memorizes short books, but it is still amazing to watch him work his way through the process. Willy also likes to chime in, and is always prepared with his 'reading glasses' (goggles from his toolbox). Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Kat's Writing Blog: The Insect Collector. Keith and Dorthe's Peanut. SEE our new bookshelves.
