Open to All - Mental Health and Social Inclusion Awareness Training for Museums and Galleries

http://opentoalltraining.co.uk/background.html

It is widely accepted that people's lives are enhanced by arts. The UK Department of Health states that the arts have a major part to play in enhancing health and wellbeing (2007, Arts Council) including healthcare provision and environments. Strong evidence indicates that the arts achieve positive outcomes for patients, staff, hospitals, mental health services and the health of the general population (Arts Council, 2007; Staricoff, 2006).

Modelling the social inclusion values that Open to All is grounded within, the training venues were within contemporary museums, which were open to the public. This allowed the training to be on-site and also provided us with the perfect opportunity to explore some of the museums during breaks! The t...

However, there is a lot more to Open to All Training than just that! One particular, example of this is the opportunities that we provide for Assisting Artists. An area that Jenny and myself (Jim) have been working on a lot this year. Research has shown tha...
