I'm not who I am because I'm a journalist; I'm a journalist because of who I am. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. Hi, traditional journalism. Meet digital. January 12, 2013. What we deliver as journalists matters not a bit if nobody is digesting it. I love what I do. I believe in what I do. I’m excited about what I do. It’s not about sacrificing our traditional skills. Exciting: I made Editor and Publisher’s list of ’25 under 35′. In April, 2013! From the Big D to the Big Apple.

From the Big D to the Big Apple: Thunderdome, via Snapchat

Thursday, April 17, 2014. Thunderdome, via Snapchat. Today is the last day at Thunderdome for many of my colleagues. I was thinking about writing a weepy post . This seemed like so much more fun, though. This is the gang, and this is how great they are. We didn't actually eat his birthday cupcake. The request for Halloween snaps. Being a remote staffer working from her living room didn't stop Amber from dressing up to attend our news meeting via Hangout on Halloween. They really are the best. And sometim...

Monday, October 21, 2013. The grand gesture guy. I've talked for quite a while about summarizing all the 'boytalk with the girls' in blog posts. Here we go (cue nervous laughter) . Aww Aren't they adorable? I don't know them. Maybe I'm jaded — divorced and full of cynicism and doubt. Losing my romanticism. I just can't keep believing this dude exists. Stories require girly drinks. Want me confidently," she said. I nodded. She is right. We can dream naively that meeting the right girl — this would b...

Thursday, September 12, 2013. I got married once. It was a good dress. Next Friday, I’ll have to face the memory of my marriage. My wedding day. It was hot and the sky was blue and the park was lovely and everything was perfect. Everything except our relationship. That, of course, wasn’t something I knew at the time. The bigger anniversary — 12 years, it would have been — comes two days later. Here are three things I’ve learned in the past year:. Your world is only as small and scary as you let it be.

Sunday, February 2, 2014. The pursuit of true love is mostly inescapable. There’s a giant chalkboard wall around the corner from my apartment that asks people to finish the sentence: Before I die I want to. I took a friend there not too long ago. 8220;We’re doing this,” I told him. My answer was more or less a materialistic want. “Live in a Park Slope brownstone,” I wrote. I painstakingly wrote out my too-long-for-the-space-allotted answer while he quickly and decisively jotted his. I am an idiot. So her...

Tuesday, January 7, 2014. I met the real-life Barney and this is what happened. Warning: This entire post is super offensive. Just sayin'. Ah, real-life Barney. If you’ve never seen HIMYM before, Barney's character is described as a "serial womanizer.". I am not talking about the dancing dinosaur dude. How I met real-life Barney. Oh, so he’s a douchebag. And then …. I ignored every single one of these text messages for a year … until Sunday. With a little help from my friends. We pretended to confuse him...

Sunday, April 14, 2013. A rooftop park, picklebacks and a puppy. View from the park. It was one hell of a week. I’ll try to do this highlight-style. Public park, on roof. There is a rooftop park. Open to the public, not even a block from my office. It may be the most amazing thing that has happened to me since moving here. Finding strange stuff in Chelsea. It was like a practical and somewhat disturbing take on a unicorn, and 2) We stumbled upon the former Limelight nightclub. Daffodils outside my office.

Saturday, May 4, 2013. The greenest block in Brooklyn: Prospect Lefferts Gardens. Kicking off my first neighborhood trip with a profile of what is arguably the most charming three blocks in Brooklyn. It’s two blocks away from where I live and a world different. Lincoln Road between Rogers Ave. and Ocean Ave. (Prospect Park). How to get there:. It’s just east of the B-Q-S. Love this place. They give you crayons and I spend the entire time drinking and drawing. Where to buy food:. There are real houses....
