Shaftesbury CC 50-mile TT 1:52:23. Saturday, 18 July 2015. Another warm day for this fast 50-mile TT on the Newmarket bypass (the A11/A14), although maybe not quite as warm as last year. And certainly not as windless). I needed to get a decent 50 under my wheels, for completeness sake, if nothing else. First turn at 4-Went-Ways, 5 miles done. Hereward the Wake 300k audax. National 100-mile TT 4:12:55. Sunday, 5 July 2015. It’d been a few years since I’d entered a national CTT. Time trial. In any “national” I usually finish well down the field on a fairly mundane course and it seems like a bit of a waste of my time. However, this year’s national 100 fitted in nicely with my plans and was likely to be on a decent course in South Wales DC. Shaftesbury 50-mile TT E2/50c 1:47:23. Saturday, 19 July 2014. I’d had few steady weeks. Some intervals, a club TT, a ride in the Hampshire 50 to an uneventful 1:54 which’d got me a ride in today’s TT. More importantly, I’d bought a brace for my ankle to wear at night and keep my achilles straight. Suddenly I was back in the running game and, having missed the English half-iron champs at Grafman. Because of a stupid achilles strain, was looking like I might be able to do Cotswold226. Thanks to Davey Jones.

Hereward the Wake 300k audax. Monday, 13 July 2015. As a faster audax rider once the clocks change I don’t get much night riding experience and even less of riding groups at night, or navigating. I can finish a 400k ride with only an hour or so’s night, if that. It’s something worth practising before PBP, as the first two nights (and the first night especially) will have a very large number of lit riders on the road. Before PBP 2011 I did a YACF. First impressions are that it is bright but seems to behave differently to the Cyo. The beam spread seems to alter with speed. The beam has a long “throw” than the Cyo and is also wider. Town and Gown 10k. 39:27. Sunday, 15 May 2016. Coming back into the park is always tricky – the paths are only fine gravel and there are more twists and turns but I had enough left in the tank to overtake a few runners dying ahead of me and a sprint finish for a 20:02 second half. Very happy with that, my fastest Town and Gown for a few years and I still feel there’s more to come this summer. Coming up to the 3km mark, still in control. English national age group Olympic distance triathlon champs 2:13:33.
