In and Around Los Angeles: April 2009
http://susanacker.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html
In and Around Los Angeles. Sunday, April 19, 2009. Soda kingdom' helps the little guy. When John Nese talks about freedom of choice, he is not talking about politics, he is talking about soda. 8220;Our choices as free people are being taken away and we don’t even know they’re being taken away,” Nese said. Nese, the owner of Galco’s Soda Pop Stop in Highland Park had an idea that some thought might never work, but 11 years and 500 varieties of sodas later he has become a success. Nese’s father, who,...

In and Around Los Angeles: A new Chinatown with old roots
http://susanacker.blogspot.com/2009/05/new-chinatown-with-old-roots.html
In and Around Los Angeles. Saturday, May 2, 2009. A new Chinatown with old roots. Painted dragons, trinket shops and herbal stores, all on one street in Los Angeles. Broadway is not just a main street in Los Angeles, but it is the main commercial artery running through the new Chinatown. Though it may not seem so new, what we now know as Chinatown is actually the new Chinatown. It was previously located where Union Station is today. He said that he grew up in Chinatown and that he comes back often. Susie...

In and Around Los Angeles: February 2009
http://susanacker.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html
In and Around Los Angeles. Friday, February 27, 2009. A cool 'pad' for vintage clothing. The Lemon Frog Shop in Los Angeles really caught my attention because I love frogs and I love anything vintage. I first heard about the vintage store a few years ago and I did not have a chance to visit it until about a year ago. I was intrigued by its location, but mostly by its name and the fact that it sold strictly vintage clothing, shoes and accessories. The name of the store, which Curtis said she got from an o...

In and Around Los Angeles: Los Angeles, home of the best bagels and chili
http://susanacker.blogspot.com/2009/05/los-angeles-home-of-best-bagels-and.html
In and Around Los Angeles. Saturday, May 2, 2009. Los Angeles, home of the best bagels and chili. Los Angeles has a lot to offer to its visitors and its residents. In particular it has a lot to offer in the way of food, not just any food, but really good food. From gourmet to fast food, the options are limitless. But two places to get really good food in Los Angeles are the Original Tommy’s Hamburgers and Brooklyn Bagel. Tommy’s, founded by Tom Koulax in 1946, is a staple in Los Angeles. Part of the uniq...

Mr. Mustachio's Whiskers: April 2011
http://mrmustachio.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
Thursday, April 21, 2011. I received word on Monday morning that my grandmother on my mom’s side had passed away. Of my extended family members that have passed on, Grandma Bishop has been the one I’ve been closest to. Both of my grandfathers died when I was still fairly young, so the bond didn’t have as much time to develop. In fact, the women have long outlived their husbands on both sides of my family (which seems to be a troubling pattern). Most importantly it meant that everyone was going to be there.

Mr. Mustachio's Whiskers: December 2010
http://mrmustachio.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html
Wednesday, December 22, 2010. Mr Mustachio's 2010 Christmas CD. I figured that since I shared my Halloween CD for this year, I might as well share my Christmas 2010 mix also. I am willing to let you “borrow” a copy of the CD if you would like. It worked out that this year’s edition totaled 25 songs. Except for my top three (which will precede the track listing), the songs are in random order. Here are my top 3 favorite Christmas songs this year:. 3 Electronic Santa – Blazer Force. A Great Big Sled –...

Jeds Blob: "You just lost a customer!"
http://jedsblob.blogspot.com/2010/01/you-just-lost-customer.html
Saturday, January 23, 2010. You just lost a customer! I've had the topic of this blog on my mind for the last week but haven't had the time to blog about it. I said "yes" (thinking that egg is standard on the Sausage McMuffin) and they then told me my total was $2.98. I thought to myself "Really 2 dollars for an egg? Which brings me to the topic of my blog. Why do we put up with fast food restaurants? If I went to the grocery store I wouldn't be cool with the checker saying okay, "Your total is $153" tak...
