Cattle Egret eating the first of two lizards. Moves it round in its beak ready for,. Then he finds his second critter. Same again, reposition to get it down his neck. June and July seems to be the slowest months for seeing bird species and August seems to kick start the fall migration for quite a few species. It was a peaceful morning and the first thing that caught my eye was:. A pair of Garden Spider that built their web side by side, they seemed busy with breakfast too. This time of the year it starts to get hot, most of the birds have gone north with the snow birds - but don't let that fool you . there is much to be mesmerized by if you take the time to notice. At 6mile Cypress Slough - a young Red-shouldered Hawk patiently waiting for the parent to return with some juicy morsel. They like to nest in the tallest trees. Friday, May 29, 2015.

On this chilly morning, we met up with the group by the Franklin's Lock and enjoyed a beautiful sunrise - filled with promises of a great day - and it was. A Limpkin came and greeted us - I believe it might just be the same Limpkin as last year and I bet this is his regular spot. Some houses were set up for the Purple Martins - always a joy to see them.

Today was definitely my lucky day, I was asked to sub for another turtle permittee volunteer on the West End of the Island and part of the duties involved doing a Green Turtle inventory - sweet! The nest hatched a few days prior and the conditions looked good . come and see. As you can see the nest was equipped with a self-releasing mesh to protect it from Coyotes.

Looking down Derwentwater into the jaws of Borrowdale, the weather wasn't good in fact at times the lake looked quite stormy. I go over to see my mate Les and have a good chat, and at the same time take a few pickies. I also took the Westies with me so they had an enjoyable run around as well. Buzzards on the patch.
