Our mid-life gap year. September 29, 2012. Jade found herself with a week off and as our trip is drawing to a close we decided it would be great to go away on a family hols, so we chose Portugal. The old food market, Looks like it would once have been a grand affair, with lovely wrought iron staircases, and we weren't sure if we'd picked the wrong day to visit, but it was very quiet, with not too any vendors about and certainly very few buyers. The country is small and therefore nothing is more than a few hours drive….a breeze, especially for us Aussies. Sintra was another “must see” town that showed up on Jade’s many recommendations, and it really is a beautiful, authentic old Portuguese town with narrow, cobbled, winding roads, and the most beautiful palaces and castle which sit high up on a hill overlooking the town and really must be seen (especially the palace, which has many of the rooms decorated with period furniture).
