In the year 2010, late in life, I enrolled on a part time course in sculpture at the Art Academy in Southwark. These a some of the works that I did when I was. Moving on from life classes. Drawing in museums led me to think of looking for the origins of some of these works. In the past few months, I have twice visited the ultimate 'sculpture park', Easter Island (or Rapa-Nui as the locals call it). I saw scores of these extraordinary heads (Moai). Their history is uncertain. They were quarried in a single part of the island. In recent years, some have been restored. Figures in groups present differently than those which stand alone. Every day, while out and about, maybe sitting in a. Coffee bar or on a train, I do a little sketch in pen and ink of someone nearby. I have to work quickly and, there's no going back on a line. Recently, someone drew my attention to something Picasso once said. There are so many realities that, in trying to render all of them visible, one ends up in the dark. That is why, when one paints a portrait, there comes a moment when one ought to stop, having attained a sort of caricature.

The large piece, in the foreground above, is now on display in St Clements, Eastcheap. In April 2016, as part of an Art Academy Graduate Programme, I briefly exhibited a series of works at the offices of Four Communications, in Southwark. It consisted of variations on the large double piece (seen below), using different configurations and plinths of different sizes to suggest how life is fragile yet enduring.
