Freckle - Coyne's Kitties
http://kitties.coyne.tibbets.net/edie-s-family/freckle
On this page is from Wikimedia Commons. Freckle was a friendly, loving little cat. She was short-haired, orange tiger-stripe with white markings; and was named Freckle because of the solitary patch of orange fur, about the size of a pencil eraser, on the left side of her nose. (Not "Freckles", but "Freckle". She passed away in April 2012 after a short, abrupt decline. I'll miss you, Freckle.

Mom-a-San - Coyne's Kitties
http://kitties.coyne.tibbets.net/mom-a-san-s-family/mom-a-san
On this page is from Wikimedia Commons. Mom-a-San was named by the neighbor. She was a small, timid cat, mostly white with pinkish orange and gray markings. She was around for a long time, but finally disappeared. She only marginally owned me. She was glad to be fed, of course, but never wanted to be around longer than required to eat; and was never a lover. She was the mother of Edie. Who together birthed the rest of my brood, and was brother to Tiny Baby. I don't know what became of her.

The official personal Blog of Coyne Tibbets. Tuesday, November 20, 2012. It started with this xkcd comic. Which is an overview of the Saturn V rocket using strictly words from the list of the 1,000 most common English words. Using that list makes technical descriptions hard, if you stick strictly to the list. So then someone created the The Up-Goer Five text editor. So, of course, I had to try it. Here's my effort, which is on the topic of stellar evolution. Learn How Stars Age. The sun is a star and wil...

The official personal Blog of Coyne Tibbets. Thursday, October 18, 2012. Being one of a kind. There's a commercial now (Fisher-Price) that contains a line promoting, ".being one of a kind." I've used that phrase from time-to-time and heard it many times. But I was thinking about it more carefully the other day and concluded that it doesn't mean what most people think it means: It doesn't mean that you are unique. So I was wondering: Did this phrase start as, "You are a kind of one? Being one of a kind.

Coyne's Place: March 2012
http://blog.coyne.tibbets.net/2012_03_01_archive.html
The official personal Blog of Coyne Tibbets. Saturday, March 31, 2012. Goodbye, Mr. Arnold. Mr Arnold, one of my older cats, passed away Thursday after a long decline. He was named Arnie at birth for reasons I no longer remember in detail; his namesake was Arnold Schwarzenegger. It fit him very well when he reached adulthood; he was big, rangy and strong. But one day I tried "Mr. Arnold" as an experiment and he expressed a definite preference for that. I'll miss you, Mr. Arnold. Wednesday, March 14, 2012.

Silver - Coyne's Kitties
http://kitties.coyne.tibbets.net/the-originals/silver
On this page is from Wikimedia Commons. We had, of course, many cats on the farm when I was a kid, but they were just "there"; Silver was the first cat that I actually considered a pet of "mine". I named her Silver because her over-all gray hair appeared silvery in sunlight. This set a pattern for the future, as many of my cats have been named after physical attributes. Not very imaginative, I guess. Finally, she came out of it; seemingly with no permanent damage.
