Dave's (mostly flying) blog: September 2012

http://palmerdave.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html

Dave's (mostly flying) blog. Click on photos to enlarge. Wednesday, September 12, 2012. Northbound Trip 2012 Part Three. Jake and I took a day to hang around Seattle. I was surprised he'd never been there and was pretty sure (correctly) he would like it. Jake found a fellow traveler. quite a character. That applies to both of them :-). Then we took the ferry over to Bainbridge to visit my friend Jim, who gave us a nice driving tour and overpowered me to pay for lunch :-). Posted by Dave Earl. Did You kno...

Dave's (mostly flying) blog. Click on photos to enlarge. Saturday, June 23, 2012. I thought I'd put up links to some of Jake's videos. He's called most of the trip from Palmer to AZ "PAAQ to F70" and the trip back "The Trip". Neither Vimeo or YouTube are easy to search particularly since I'm never sure if he's going by "Jacob Fredrickson" or "SaveTheCroissants". He makes great movies so check them out:. All Jake's Videos on YouTube. All Jake's Videos on Vimeo. Well, we're in Canada. It's been a long time.

Dave's (mostly flying) blog: September 2011

http://palmerdave.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html

Dave's (mostly flying) blog. Click on photos to enlarge. Friday, September 2, 2011. 269 hrs in the air. I'd estimated 25. We waited around San Luis Obispo until about 11 waiting on fog, but that gave me time to review the Los Angeles terminal area chart for a VFR route through all the airspace, which was fruitless. But it also gave us time to visit Jake's favorite coffee shop. We had dinner in Temecula at a Bank converted to a restaurant. We missed a couple planned stops on the way down because weather p...

http://palmerdave.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html

Dave's (mostly flying) blog. Click on photos to enlarge. Tuesday, March 20, 2012. We left Southern CA and went over to Coolidge AZ, stopping in Yuma to pick up a bicycle (1984 Schwinn 10-speed) I'd bought in Phoenix a few years ago and left at a friends house. The kids liked SoCal fine. Jake the Disneyland Dandy. Once again, I was glad we had a case of water with us :-). They were great about it. And I watched this GPS like a hawk. :-) (Yes it's an old picture from on the ground in Palmer). Before we lef...

Dave's (mostly flying) blog: Beer Engine Education

http://palmerdave.blogspot.com/2014/06/beer-engine-education.html

Dave's (mostly flying) blog. Click on photos to enlarge. Saturday, June 7, 2014. I was recently in England and had an epiphany about the beer engine. I felt like a rube in the Continent - I should have known this a long time ago :-). They use a 'tap' to dispense carbonated lagers from kegs - like we're used to seeing. They use the 'handle' (beer engine) to dispense ales from casks. She was aghast when I told her we dispensed force carbonated kegged ales from 'taps' in the US; "Like a LAH-GAH? I recently ...

TJ's Flying Adventures: Planing for a First Attempt at Skywriting

http://www.tjflyingadventures.com/2010/12/planing-for-first-attempt-at-skywriting.html

Thursday, December 16, 2010. Planing for a First Attempt at Skywriting. After reading several of Steve Dilullo's. Posts, I feel inspired to try something a bit different this weekend. His post about ribbon cutting. Has quite cool. But I fly a Cirrus and I can't "just open the window" to try ribbon cutting. However, his post about skywriting. Really got me thinking. I wanted to give skywriting a try and see just how hard it really was. I will probably try all three plans and check out the results. How...

TJ's Flying Adventures: Bucket List

http://www.tjflyingadventures.com/p/50-state-quest.html

I am a firm believer in setting goals and tracking progress towards them. In fact, I think every pilot should have a bucket list. Here is mine:. Personally land in all 50 states. When I started flying, I casually thought about flying to lots of different places. Then in 2010, I decided it was time to start getting serious about it. I set a goal of personally landing in all 50 states. While I thought it would take me over 5 years, in reality it ended up being less than 2 years! But I am certainly NOT done.

Saturday, May 11, 2013. Formation Training video Part 2. I finally found time to finish the part 2 video on the Formation Flight Training. Actually, I was on a Newark to Hong Kong flight that was 15.5 hours and I had already finished my email dinner a movie and still wasn't sleepy. So I finished this video . Hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed taking the actual flight training:. Posted by TJ Shembekar. Sunday, May 5, 2013. By staying below the clouds at least we didn't have the sun in our eyes! Black Flies and Bush Planes: Hi Strangers....

http://5400airportrdsouth.blogspot.com/2012/05/hi-strangers.html

Black Flies and Bush Planes. Wednesday, May 16, 2012. Well, its been awhile. a lot has happened since I last summoned up the courage to type out an entry and get over my embarrassment at not having posted for eight months. But, what the Hay, lets see if I can make a run at this again. I guess a recap of the missing time period would be a good way to start. So, short story shorter, here we are. I don't particularly like using this blog as a platform to tell people about my personal life, because, well, th...

AK Earls, GO Blog!: October 2008

http://akearlsgoblog.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html

AK Earls, GO Blog! Saturday, October 25, 2008. From Disney World we went over to the East Coast and stayed around the Treasure Coast area. The campsite at Sebastian Inlet was great - right on the Intra (they all say "inner" though) coastal waterway. There were quite a few dolphins and a couple Manatees swimming by right in front of us. They had a playground Hanna liked (another great Jake photo). This guy caught a Snook right in front of our campsite. They were cast round, but then an assayer would nip a...

Monday, June 10, 2013. Through the Delta and On to Victoria Falls. We have now left the Okavanga Delta. But not before a rather incredible stay at the Shinde Lodge. This lodge is run by the Ker and Downey Group, which is a very large safari tour operator in Botswana. It is a an amazing five star lodge that is right in the middle of the delta. We landed on their private dirt runway, which you can see below:. I took over 300 pictures and couldn't stop shooting. Here are a couple of my favorites:. We have h...

TJ's Flying Adventures: White Plains & NYC Skyline

http://www.tjflyingadventures.com/2011/07/white-plains-nyc-skyline.html

Saturday, July 30, 2011. White Plains and NYC Skyline. I spent this week in NY, specifically in White Plains, which is just on the northern edge of the New York Class B airspace frenzy. But more importantly, it is also the home of IBM Flight Operations. The IBM fleet consists of a number of aircraft, including Gulfstream 550s, Falcon 200s and even helicopters. As you can imagine, they have an enormous hanger to house this little fleet. That has been established for this route that is very simple to follow.

TJ's Flying Adventures: Avidyne R9 Upgrade Process

http://www.tjflyingadventures.com/2010/10/avidyne-r9-upgrade-process.html

Friday, October 1, 2010. Avidyne R9 Upgrade Process. Many people have asked me about what was involved in doing my Avidyne R9 retrofit. So I have finally gotten around to describing it. First a little background/context. Last year, I was the happy, proud owner of N-514TJ, which is a Cirrus SR-20, well equipped with the Avidyne R7 avionics suite. This was the first plane I owned and I was EXTREMELY happy with it. However, it was missing a couple of features that got me thinking about upgrading. Then, with...

http://www.tjflyingadventures.com/2014_01_01_archive.html

Friday, January 3, 2014. So I have been using my fairly frequent trips to the US to ensure I maintain my currency and proficiency. Recently, I was in the US and was able to take advantage of the freedom and the spontaneity of the US skies. I started in Atlanta where my plane was in Trip's cozy hanger, which you can see below:. Since I am not very familiar with the Atlanta airspace, I filed an IFR flight plan to FL. After all the spartan cockpits I have been in lately, it felt great to be back in the cirr...
