A Zest for Life. Friday, January 16, 2015. Domino and relevance - plus some important thanks. You might wonder why a drama about someone in Spain suffering through the economic crisis there would be relevant to an American audience. Well, wonder no more. It has been estimated that. New York City had 48,000 homeless in 2013. San Francisco has about 10,000 while in Washintgon, D.C. there are about 7,000. In all, it is estimated that there are over 3 million homeless people in the United Sta...The release i...

Palomino Productions: September 2014

A Zest for Life. Saturday, September 27, 2014. Mercury mines at Almadén - how we´ll use them (part 3 of 3). We're hoping to use the mercury mines at Almadén in our documentary-in-progress, Flamenco: la tierra está viva (Flamenco: the Land Is Still Fertile). Because it seemed to use that the mines are a good representative of the centuries of discrimination and mistreatment of gitanos. In Spain, we wanted to film a scene there. Oh, why not. Me, getting ready to go down into the mine. But another problem h...

Palomino Productions: November 2014
http://palominopro.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
A Zest for Life. Saturday, November 29, 2014. To make some improvements on my documentary about Spanish immigrants,"Weaving with Spanish Threads," I decided to add some music. One piece I wanted was a traditional Spanish song that the immigrants would have listened to and played after they moved to California. I found just what I wanted on a music album arranged and produced by Jenny Vincent and performed by her trio, music she found in a collection created back in the 1930s. Craig Smith, a writer and mu...

http://palominopro.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
A Zest for Life. Saturday, February 28, 2015. On the road again (late Feb. 2015). I'm in Paris now, on my way to Jerez (Jerez de la Frontera, Spain). The main purpose of this trip is to film material that "we" have agreed is needed in order to make our trailer for the flamenco documentary a knock-your-socks-off trailer that will bring in grants, funding, and, well, money. A grey winter's day on Blvd. du Montparnasse, Paris. The lone jogger.but many more in front and behind. There are also some other peop...

Palomino Productions: The cajón - in flamenco, in Afro-Peruvian music
http://palominopro.blogspot.com/2015/06/the-cajon-in-flamenco-in-afro-peruvian.html
A Zest for Life. Tuesday, June 9, 2015. The cajón - in flamenco, in Afro-Peruvian music. I count myself as a friend of Lalo Izquierdo - dancer, choreographer, percussionist and folklorist of his Afro-Peruvian community. When Lalo told me the group he and three others founded in 1969 called Perú Negro had introduced famous flamenco guitarist Paco de Lucía to the cajón (an Afro-Peruvian percussion instrument), I believed him. Sorry that this video is in Spanish.). Eve A Ma is currently working on a major d...

A Zest for Life. Tuesday, June 2, 2015. A little more backtracking - Córdoba, beautiful Córdoba (even later April). On my way to Cannes last April, I spent a couple of days in Córdoba.the first time I've been there. What a great city! The roof and domes of the "Great Mosque" as seen from the Roman bridge. Here is only a small portion of the "Great Mosque" to give you some idea of the size. Ceiling of the cathedral which is inside the Great Mosque. Archway leading to a more moslem alcove. There's also the...

Palomino Productions: Finding Les Blank
http://palominopro.blogspot.com/2015/06/finding-les-blank.html
A Zest for Life. Thursday, June 4, 2015. I don't know why I didn't meet Les Blank before he died; after all, he lived in El Cerrito and made documentaries about music and dance - just like me. Although for some reason I didn't ever get to know him personally, now, I have "found" him. Les Blank made all kinds of films about things like cajun music, bluegrass, Lightnin' Hopkins, the polka people, and even topics like garlic. All that I know of were shot in the United States. I am now on the third DVD. ...
