Pam's Garden Dreams: May 2009
http://pamsgardendreams.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html
Gardening in an urban backyard. Thursday, May 7, 2009. In an astounding display of support, Town Meeting members in Arlington voted last night to allow for the keeping of up to 6 hens (with plenty of restrictions) in Backyards in Arlington! More details here: http:/ backyardchicks.com. With more to come after this weekend! Monday, May 4, 2009. This was a great weekend for gardening! 160;Cool, but not too cold, sunny in parts, cloudy at times. Just fine. Potted up Federle paste tomatoes. Added two new na...
Pam's Garden Dreams: Tomatoes!
http://pamsgardendreams.blogspot.com/2009/08/tomatoes.html
Gardening in an urban backyard. Friday, August 28, 2009. I finally have ripe tomatoes! My early efforts in the garden have also turned up garlic and some very poorly weeded, but not too small onions. They tasted great, we had some last night! Also, the raspberries are starting to ripen - yum! Tom served me some last night with homemade whipped cream I had made and frozen earlier this year. A little bit of garden happiness! Oh, I forgot to mention what kind of tomatoes they are! They sure are good, though.
Pam's Garden Dreams: March 2009
http://pamsgardendreams.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html
Gardening in an urban backyard. Saturday, March 28, 2009. I set out my Mason bees today. I put the tubes of bees in a box, with a small hole in it, so they can escape, but won't nest in those tubes again. The lady at Knox Cellars said to put them out when the temperature is reliably above 50 degrees during the week, and it looks like this is the week! Arugula, scallions, cranberries, and sweet alyssum are working well. My onions have gotten floppy, though - I'm not sure if I should trim them or not.
Pam's Garden Dreams: January 2009
http://pamsgardendreams.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html
Gardening in an urban backyard. Wednesday, January 14, 2009. It's time for Bees! I couldn't get enough talking about gardening, so I decided to start this blog! 160;I'm so excited tonight because I recieved my mason bees today! 160;Avid little pollinators for my apple trees! 160;Apparently I was supposed to put them in the fridge, but I didn't know that, so I put them in an insulated box (with an escape hole) under the porch next to the house. I hope they live! Here's where I bought my bees from:. The m...

My Dirt: April showers bring...
http://mydirtblog.blogspot.com/2009/05/april-showers-bring.html
A Blog Inspired by My Experiences at the Minton Stable Community Garden. Sunday, May 17, 2009. Yeah, right. Some flowers, yes, but more work than anything else. May is one of the busiest months for gardening. So much to put in, so much to take out. And a few flowers, too, but in addition to nursing a cold, I've been tackling my to-do list, which has included:. 1 Pulling thousands of maple seedlings out of many square feet of garden space in my mostly shady yard- they will grow anywhere. 6 Spreading some ...
My Dirt: November 2009
http://mydirtblog.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html
A Blog Inspired by My Experiences at the Minton Stable Community Garden. Monday, November 23, 2009. Harvest Monday and reflecting on the broccoli crop. It's harvest Monday, and two weeks since I reported on mine and linked with the others at Daphne's blog. Along with the pole beans and romaine lettuce, the Fiesta organic broccoli seeds (from Fedco) I had sown back in March. I'll definitely grow it again next year, and perhaps try some Romanesco or Broccoli Raab for more variety. I may also save the s...
My Dirt: Now in bloom at home
http://mydirtblog.blogspot.com/2010/04/now-in-bloom-at-home.html
A Blog Inspired by My Experiences at the Minton Stable Community Garden. Saturday, April 24, 2010. Now in bloom at home. In moments of spare time and dry weather I've been clearing out the perennial beds at home, and it looks like there will be several hours of thinning and digging to do between now and the Perennial Divide. Until the bee balm come into bloom during the summer, I can get my fix of red from the coral bells. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Invasion of the berries, 4/7/10. I have been g...

A Blog Inspired by My Experiences at the Minton Stable Community Garden. Sunday, January 31, 2010. Herbs and Greenway update. Friday, January 22, 2010. Greenway Gardens at risk. Save Boston's Greenway Gardens.". I was a little surprised to learn that the gardens were at risk. After all, they were completed less than two years ago, thanks to a team of volunteer master gardeners, and, according to this LiveJournal entry. A different group, the Rose Kennedy Greenway Conservancy, was in alliance with MassHor...
My Dirt: The benefits of gardening and other updates
http://mydirtblog.blogspot.com/2009/05/benefits-of-gardening-and-other-updates.html
A Blog Inspired by My Experiences at the Minton Stable Community Garden. Wednesday, May 27, 2009. The benefits of gardening and other updates. Some of you may recall that I started my 2009 gardening season with an experiment. Recording my gardening expenses and comparing them to the estimated costs of the vegetables and fruits that my gardens would yield. My not-so-scientific process began with a general question: Does gardening save money on food costs, and if so, by how much? Salad mix, perhaps a combi...
My Dirt: Bitter broccoli, besieged beebalm
http://mydirtblog.blogspot.com/2009/07/bitter-broccoli-besieged-beebalm.html
A Blog Inspired by My Experiences at the Minton Stable Community Garden. Monday, July 20, 2009. Bitter broccoli, besieged beebalm. Recommends some fungicides, but I'll wait and see if the problem worsens. Oh that is so sad, but at least it is good cooked. My spring broccoli pretty much all died. Im hoping the fall broccoli that I just planted will work out better. July 21, 2009 at 8:36 AM. Sesame oil to the rescue on everything! July 21, 2009 at 9:00 PM. July 22, 2009 at 12:26 AM. My Dirt: October 2009
http://mydirtblog.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html
A Blog Inspired by My Experiences at the Minton Stable Community Garden. Thursday, October 29, 2009. Here are a few photos of what's still up. A lean-to that the creator had intended for cucumbers (notice the nice brussel sprouts next to it). One substantial setup that once had peas climbing up strings, and still supporting the highest cosmos I've ever seen. One of several pea trellises made from pipes, broomsticks, and chicken wire. Tuesday, October 20, 2009. Super Colossal gin-soaked garlic. The beauty...

A Blog Inspired by My Experiences at the Minton Stable Community Garden. Monday, May 17, 2010. Harvest Monday and vegetable update. Thinned out lettuce continues to be my Harvest Monday story. On Saturday midday, I checked in on my Minton Stable Garden plot as I waited to receive a walking tour that a BNAN. But I don't want to jinx the situation. Anything can go wrong; today I encountered a familiar-looking scourge. I usually grow spinach under row covers to keep off the leaf miners. But I had to pul...

Pam's Full Plate
Past and Future Races. Pam's Full Plate. Toastmaster’s Project 1: The Evolution of a Cat Lady. August 21, 2012 by Pamela Rich. I’ve always loved animals. My parents regale stories of me, three years old, my feet barely reaching the end of the couch cushions, sobbing over the uncertain fate of wolf puppies in a Lassie movie. I used to ask for prairie dogs for pets and couldn’t understand why it just couldn’t be. While other teens were reading books like. All Creatures Great and Small. I don’t have t...

Pam's Garden Spot
Sunday, June 19, 2016. Front border - East side. I trimmed all of the dead branches out of these Snowmound spireas earlier this spring. They were in full bloom on June 4, along with the purple Walker's Low nepeta. This is the east side of a circular patch of grass that I call the secret garden. You can sit on that little bench and disappear from the world. This yellow Baptista is a volunteer - it sprouted from the seed of the Starlite Prairieblues Baptista, (behind the yellow one in the photo) which was ...
