Deadhorse to Ushuaia

Saturday, 1 June 2013. Last night, Pre-Flight. We bought tickets for the Sunday train between Rosario and Buenos Aires before we left Cordoba. The trains are very infrequent and slow but really cheap, between $21-$30 pesos for a 9hr train ride. This meant that the trip between Cordoba and Rosario was the last hitch-hiking we would do before we left. Which felt strange. Rosario is built on the enormous Paran รก. We stocked up on books in Spanish since they were cheaper here (not as cheap as Bolivia of cour...

Deadhorse to Ushuaia: December 2012

http://www.panamericaroadtrip.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html

Wednesday, 26 December 2012. Mortars at the museum. Our Couchsurf lives 20km out of Leon on the coast and went out there to pitch our tent 50m from the Pacific Ocean. The water is warm and the waves very powerful and we have dashed ourselves against them several times now. Our host is really nice and keeper of a fair menagerie of animals including dogs, a horse, chickens, cats and a baby raccoon, who was taken to her by someone who found him abandoned. And coconut with lime juice! It's pretty expensive t...

Deadhorse to Ushuaia: Autumn has come

http://www.panamericaroadtrip.blogspot.com/2013/04/autumn-has-come.html

Monday, 29 April 2013. In exploring the city itself we wandered up the eccentricly developed Cerro Santa Lucia near the heart of the city, visited and recommended by Charles Darwin (which is more than can be said for Tierra del Fuego, but we find out for ourselves soon enough). It is a very pretty knoll, covered in turrets and towers of half a dozen architectures with views as good as Santiago´s smog-bound horizon will let you see. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Deadhorse to Ushuaia: White Line Fever

http://www.panamericaroadtrip.blogspot.com/2013/04/white-line-fever.html

Sunday, 21 April 2013. The title is a phrase we heard from a biker we met in Panama to describe the traveler's itch. Over the last week we've certainly had it, covering about 2500km (1500 odd miles). Most days there's been nothing we'd rather do but keep hitching. Our first day was one of great rides and beautiful views, both whilst driving. And at hitching spots. Today we visited a museum of archaeology and saw some of the Rapa Nui (Easter Island) heads and a lot more about precolombian Chilean cultures...

Deadhorse to Ushuaia: March 2013

http://www.panamericaroadtrip.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html

Sunday, 31 March 2013. We've also got out of the city a couple of times to hike the Valle de la Luna park, where different periods of rock formations have made a moon-like area. And the Muela del Diablo peak, not far from the city but a beautiful walk, with great views of La Paz. We found a cafe run by Mujeres Creando. This is the cafe. You can tell they are lesbian llamas because only women wear those hats. Hurray! We also briefly visited the National Museum of Art. They were having a big display of...

Deadhorse to Ushuaia: May 2013

http://www.panamericaroadtrip.blogspot.com/2013_05_01_archive.html

Thursday, 23 May 2013. Argentina, neither Buenos Aires nor Patagonia. Puerto Madryn was not entirely unlike being in Wales but we couldn't afford the exotic tea and "Welsh cake" here. Having escaped the southern chill and snow, we rented bikes and journeyed out along the coast. There was a surprising amount of wildlife around, many nesting shags and an amazing grey hawk eating a little furry thing that we got really close to. Is the hilarious and also moving story of a young man forced to convince his si...
