Churchill Crocodile | Historymill's Blog
https://historymill.wordpress.com/churchill-crocodile
A little slice of history. 141st Royal Tank Regiment. The Churchill Crocodile was an adapted MKVIII (MKIII has also been identified) with the bow gunner machine gun removed and in its place, a flame unit supplied by towed armoured trailer. The base kit I am using is the Tamiya Crocodile, a reissue based upon the 70’s Churchill Release. Upgrades to this build include Eduard photo-etch, plus Fruil Model Aluminium working tracks, and also a wealth of scratch-built add-on. Following a primer coat of Citadel ...

KV-1 Heavy Tank | Historymill's Blog
https://historymill.wordpress.com/kv-1-heavy-tank
A little slice of history. Mass produced and heavily armoured , the KV-1 took German panzers crews by surprise at opening of Operation Barbarossa in the summer of 1941. Repelling attacks from panzer III’ and IV’s, crews came face to face with the 76.5mm main armament of the KV-1, the most powerful tank of its time. The main approach by crews to applying the paints; which were of course applied in the field, is as follows:. This slideshow requires JavaScript. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. You are commenting...

Tamiya Willys Jeep | Historymill's Blog
https://historymill.wordpress.com/tamiya-willys-jeep
A little slice of history. The Willys Jeep has been a popular Tamiya classic since I started introducing glue to plastic. Built from the box, the kit can be assembled in a couple of hours and will leave the modeler with a fairly representative example of the real vehicle. Spend a bit longer on the build and the possibilities are endless, the variations to the 4×4 chassis are extensive throughout its 640,000 production run. No side view mirror. Armoured shield around the cabin constructed from sheet metal.

Sherman Firefly 1/48 | Historymill's Blog
https://historymill.wordpress.com/sherman-firefly-148
A little slice of history. Ok Ok, I know it’s another Sherman Firefly, though this project completes the gap between my 1/72 captured Firefly, and the Ken Tout inspired 1/35 kit. As my first kit in this scale, I have made a number of observations. Mainly that the scale offers a comfortable medium between size and detail. The kit’s size permits a reasonable level of detail and chrispness, and is contained within a much smaller package, making storage and display easier. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Create ...

Twenty six ways to Wargame: 2.SS Panzergrenadiers
http://leon026.blogspot.com/2011/10/2ss-panzergrenadiers.html
Twenty six ways to Wargame. New settings and new contents! Sunday, October 16, 2011. Today I shall display my work on my integral part of my 2.SS Panzergrenadierkompanie army. Without a doubt, these are the panzergrenadier infantrymen. Forming the 'core' of my panzergrenadierkompanie, they hold the center line and engage in bitter close assaults against the enemy. Hard as nails with a vicious bite, these SS-Panzergrenadiers have won glory and respect in my games so far. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Twenty six ways to Wargame: Holidays, and book review
http://leon026.blogspot.com/2012/06/holidays-and-book-review.html
Twenty six ways to Wargame. New settings and new contents! Saturday, June 30, 2012. Holidays, and book review. I have succeeded in taking a week off to go see the family and also took the opportunity to buy a couple digital books to read on the train. The first, "Panzer Lehr Division 1944-1945", followed by "SS-Totenkopf" and the final one "Panzer Leader" by Heinz Guderian. While it certainly does give an interesting insight to the division and its history as a whole, it is certainly not remotely even in...

Aliens APC 1/35 Halcyon kit | Historymill's Blog
https://historymill.wordpress.com/aliens-apc-135-halcyon-kit
A little slice of history. Aliens APC 1/35 Halcyon kit. The first major obstacle in building the 1987 Halcyon kit of the armoured personal carrier from Aliens is actually tracking a kit down. After parting with a rather substantial sum on an auction site. I had one! I made my choice at 14 years old to purchase the Halcyon loader, instead of the APC, managing a fairly decent result with my then rudimentary modelling skills. I vowed to buy the APC as soon. To extract just the square moulded grill sections ...
