Olympia's Poetry Blog: December 2008

http://papadopuluapenglish.blogspot.com/2008_12_01_archive.html

Tuesday, December 30, 2008. External Strucutre: [My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun] by William Shakespeare. This is my favorite Shakespeare poem, as it is humorous yet has an important message. Shakespear is remarkeable becasue he has an entire book of poetry in the sonnet formation. There is not really much to out of hte ordinary about the external structure of. My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun],. Interior Structure: [The Wind begun to knead the Grass-] by Emily Dickinson. Which means...

Tuesday, February 3, 2009. Favorite Poems: Mostly My Nightmares Are Dullby Andrew Hudgins. Page 857 of the Norton. This speaker also alludes to Shakespeare's "To be" speach where dreams are what occurs during death, and how they could be nightmares or good dreams. The speaker dreams of his dead relatives, therefore having a nightmare. I expecially like the last "couplet" so to speak the concluding three lines of the poem:. I wake, they die again, and I walk out. Into a day, I'll live as carelessly. Jaxon...

Sunday, January 25, 2009. External Form, Continued: Sonnet 23 - Is it indeed so? If I lay here dead by Elizabeth Barrett Browning. Is it indeed so? If I lay here dead,. Wouldst thou miss any life in losing mine? And would the sun for thee more coldly shine. Because of grave-damps falling round my head? I marvelled, my Beloved, when I read. Thy thought so in the letter. I am thine—. But so much to thee? Can I pour thy wine. While my hands tremble? Then my soul, instead. Then, love me, Love! There, waiting...

Kasey's AP English Blog!: Slam Poetry

http://quinlanapenglish.blogspot.com/2009/03/slam-poetry.html

Sunday, March 29, 2009. On What Teachers Make" by Taylor Mali. It can be found here. DEFINITELY LISTEN TO IT =). To begin, I think it's very important that slam poetry be listened to, as it IS called spoken word. To read a splam poem is nothing compared to hearing the author recite it because much of the importance is in the tone and delivery. The art of spoken word is so greatly dependent on the presentation. In this slam poem, Mali uses the literary device of apostrophe. Kasey's AP English Blog! Ambigu...

Sunday, March 15, 2009. Spenserian sonnet: Sonnet 75. For my Spenserian sonnet, I chose Sonnet 75 by Edmund Spenser, an audio reading of which you can find here. One day I wrote her name upon the strand,. But came the waves and washed it away:. Again I wrote it with a second hand,. But came the tide, and made my pains his prey. Vain man, said she, that dost in vain assay. A mortal thing so to immortalize! For I myself shall like to this decay,. And eek my name be wiped out likewise. Free Verse: Messy Room.

Michaela's Poetry Blog: January 2009

http://miragliottaapenglish.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html

Sunday, January 18, 2009. In what a beautiful silence the death is inflicted. My second external form poem this week is. By David Ferry, which is on page 1048 of the Norton. The interesting set-up of this poem leaves a lot of blank space on the page, which mirrors the "nothing" mentioned in the second and third lines. The way the lines are arranged makes the reader pause while speaking or reading and go through the poem slowly. At that awkward age now between birth and death. Sunday, January 11, 2009.

Papa Do Run

Friday, November 6, 2009. FINALLY, IT'S HERE! As promised, I'm at long last announcing the arrival of my new rock and roll trivia book, the one I've been working on wrapping up over the summer and fall. Whew! This volume not only covers more of the early vintage stuff from the 60s and some 50s, but goes on to include popular songs and artists from the 70s and 80s. There's more of everything! Here's the official blurb:. So hang on, Sloopy, and let those good times roll, better yet, let the good times rock!
