Buying Your First Scope  | Paper, Chalkdust and Stars

https://paperchalkdustandstars.wordpress.com/2015/06/21/buying-your-first-scope

Paper, Chalkdust and Stars. From the classroom, to the Universe. Astronomy in the Philippines. Buying Your First Scope. If truth be told, it IS the deciding factor in buying your first telescope. To simply put, if I have a billion to spend, I’d probably get the best that there is! Or just buy myself another space telescope if ground isn’t enough for me. So how much are you willing to spend? It might, to a certain degree but it would only frustrate and dampen your high for the sky. These department st...

https://paperchalkdustandstars.wordpress.com/2015/06/22/crux

Paper, Chalkdust and Stars. From the classroom, to the Universe. Astronomy in the Philippines. Crux or the Southern Cross is probably the most popular constellation in Australia and is as well a symbol in their flag. In the southern hemisphere, it is used to approximate then location of the south celestial pole by extending it 4 1/2 times to where it points. In one aboriginal culture, it is regarded as a stingray. 30s single exposure f4 at ISO 3200. Taken at Katoomba Airstrip, NSW. Enter your comment here.

Stargazers: October 2014

https://blogstargazers.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html

Monday, October 27, 2014. Optics, Atmosphere and Astronomy. Several atmospheric phenomena exist that usually catches our eye. They usually result from optical effects in the atmosphere such as refraction, diffraction, scattering, etc. The most commonly known atmospheric effect is that of rainbows. The presence of water droplets in the atmosphere causes the sun's light to be reflected and refracted into its component colors. Here are some other atmospheric effects:. The blue color of our sky is a result o...

The previous grouping with no NOAA designation is now labeled as active region (1)2294. Below are the 3D rendering of AR 2294 from yesterday and today. Friday, March 27, 2015. Largest Telescopes in the Philippines. Here is another Philippine astronomy demographic regarding the largest telescope in the Philippines. In terms of astronomical optics "bigger is better". When the aperture (diameter of objective lens/mirror) of a telescope is larger it results to higher light gathering power, resolution, and useful magnification. Aperture: 18" (45 cm). Status: In use, however mount is misaligned due to sinking ground of the observatory. Aperture: 16" (40 cm).

https://blogstargazers.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html

Sunday, December 21, 2014. Solar Image: 22 Dec 2014. I had to image in between brief moments of sunlight through gaps in the clouds. Seeing wasn't that good so I opted to do some 3D isophote rendering of the three largest transit-ARs. The two large sunspot groups receding from the solar disk have been actively flaring; in fact AR (1)2242 produced an intense X1.8-class flare on Dec 20 00:27 UT. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). This will be my last post for now before traveling back to the Andromeda Mobile Planetarium for work. I might get to image again on Saturday or Sunday when I get back to my equipment. I was hoping I can document the growth and development of AR 2259 [McIntosh: Eko] but it looks like I'll only get to catch up on that via the internet. Sunday, January 11, 2015. Today is ...
