A Letter from our President Sam Blair. For a very long time Park Friends has worked on the revitalization project for the Limestone Trail in Overton Park. Park Friends’ persistence has paid off. The Limestone Trail Phase 1, Phase 2 and follow-up projects have been completed. Park Friends volunteers, Rhodes College, Overton Park Conservancy, HBC Trailworks, TDEC and the City of Memphis have all collaborated to bring the Limestone Trail project to a successful conclusion. Overton Park was named in 1979 to the National Registry for Historic Places and was named one of ten Parks that changed America on PBS. It is certainly the Crown Jewel of parks for Memphis, Tennessee. George Kessler's original plan for Overton Park, circa 1901. Very quickly other elements were added to the park. A Beaux-Arts mansion was built for an art museum, and the beginning of the zoo was created with a pet bear who was relegated to the park. Today the park houses the Memphis Brooks Museum.

Friday, March 9, 2012. Port-a-Potty in Lick Creek. View this morning looking down from the stone bridge at hole 2 over Lick Creek. The port-a-potty washed into the creek from down in the golf course maintenance area. We periodically lose trash cans too close to the creek during flash floods, and yesterday's rain was a doozy.
