Cathie Cooks Food: Walking for Hope
http://cathiecooksfood.blogspot.com/2010/05/walking-for-hope.html
Sunday, May 2, 2010. Today the whole family walked in the Race for Hope in Washington DC, for my husbands friend who died of Brain Cancer last year. We had a huge team and raised over $11,000 for brain cancer research and it was really fun. I had planned to run in the event, but 4 weeks ago I tore my calf muscle. We had just had a March Madness event at my gym (Golds! So the moral of the story is warm up your calf muscles properly. And it's surprisingly difficult! It really makes you think about what you...

Cathie Cooks Food: Cupcakes....
http://cathiecooksfood.blogspot.com/2010/06/cupcakes.html
Sunday, June 6, 2010. I had to make some cupcakes for my daughters end of year Brownie party tomorrow, so I used my Vanilla Fairy Cupcakes recipe. And then did the pale green icing with the confectioners sugar/water mixture and made it a little bit runny and then dipped the tops of the cupcakes in that, let it set and then used Martha's Basic Butter cream frosting tinted pink. To decorate with my very basic piping set. So today I made two Banana Cakes. The cupcakes, a Warm Lentil Salad. For lunches durin...

Cathie Cooks Food: November 2008
http://cathiecooksfood.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html
Sunday, November 23, 2008. Not Much Going on In My Kitchen. Since I last blogged I've been away for two weekends, one to Baltimore, and one to New York, so I've done more eating than cooking. Also, I have to be truthful, I just haven't made anything decent for ages, so I've been totally unmotivated to blog. With Thanksgiving days away, I'll be making a couple of new things so I'll be able to update. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). My food on Tastespotting. My food on FoodGawker. Elle's New England Kitchen.

A Tribe Called Fit. May 3, 2010 at 2:56 pm · Filed under Movements. If you’ve got a big tractor tire, here’s something cool and new you can do with it. Of course you don’t need a tire to pull this off, but it does work well for this application. The scissoring lunges will zap your legs. No comments yet ». Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Train Now, Live Later: Quick Dash up the Wrekin
http://trainnowlivelater.blogspot.com/2010/11/quick-dash-up-wrekin.html
Pay Now Live Later (sister blog). Sunday, 7 November 2010. Quick Dash up the Wrekin. Yesterday, I ran up the light side of the Wrekin. I didn't time it, but reckon it was 18 mins up, then 13 down. I wore the Five Finger Flow Treks. And where it was not too steep, concentrated on Pose-style. Running. It's the first hill run since Langdale. 4 weeks ago, and just something to keep me in the game ahead of the 8-mile Wrekin Wrecker race in a couple of weeks. I fasted until lunch. I am fasting today in penance.

Train Now, Live Later: My Running Style Experiment
http://trainnowlivelater.blogspot.com/2010/08/my-barefoot-running-experiment.html
Pay Now Live Later (sister blog). Wednesday, 18 August 2010. My Running Style Experiment. There's barefoot running and there's minimalist running. The two sometimes get confused. I have been running in Vibram Five Fingers for over a year now, so my style has necessarily morphed into a forefoot-first strike, which is clearly a step up from driving a Nike-shod heel into the ground in front of me with each stride. First, Pose Running. Lent me a book called ' The Pose Method of Running. Walking and running w...

Train Now, Live Later: Bent Over Row
http://trainnowlivelater.blogspot.com/2009/01/bent-over-row.html
Pay Now Live Later (sister blog). Thursday, 1 January 2009. This is considered to be a good mass-builder for the upper back and this video illustrates well how the muscles are engaged by the movement. You can vary the grip width and angle of the back to suit. I prefer to have my back as close to horizontal as possible. I believe that the wider the grip, the less the biceps are engaged and therefore the more you isolate the lats. Train Now, Live Later: Deadlift
http://trainnowlivelater.blogspot.com/2009/03/deadlift.html
Pay Now Live Later (sister blog). Thursday, 1 January 2009. No matter how much I get into bodyweight exercises, I cannot let go of deadlifts. They are just such a great all-body exercise. The videos show the different ways they can be done. It's one of the few exercises where I still use lifting straps. With this version, you keep the legs more or less entirely straight and make more use of the lower back. People often stand on a platform to get a greater stretch on the hamstrings. A standard deadlift f.
