Down at the plot: Reaping rewards | Pastry & purls

https://pastryandpurls.wordpress.com/2015/08/02/down-at-the-plot-reaping-rewards

Creativity, taste, life. Wednesday yarn-along: vintage jumper →. Down at the plot: Reaping rewards. The allotment is still full of weeds, but I am really happy with how allotmenting is going so far. Neither of us have grown veg or fruit before so there was a possibility nothing would happen. Also, we’ve only managed to go once a week, while our neighbors seem to go several times a week. Frankly, we have too much to do to manage that! Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window). Enter your comment here.

Courgette & beet greens risotto | Pastry & purls

https://pastryandpurls.wordpress.com/2015/08/07/courgette-beet-greens-risotto

Creativity, taste, life. Wednesday yarn-along: vintage jumper. Wednesday read-along →. Courgette and beet greens risotto. I started the risotto as usual. Sauteeing the uncooked rice for a couple of minutes before adding a little bit of white wine and vegetable stock. In the meantime, I chopped up the courgette into quarters. I also washed the beet leaves, then roughly chopped them. All in all it was pretty tasty and I would recommend it! Have you been doing any creative cooking lately? I made cold cucumb...

Creativity, taste, life. Newer posts →. 5 happy things – the one with things to look forward to. Please do share yours in the comments, too. Autumn bearing raspberries. The raspberries at our allotment are autumn bearing, so they are really coming into their own now. It’s fantastic, because there isn’t much else going on right now. Plus, raspberries are my favorite berry. I try not to be smug about it, but it’s hard.😉. To celebrate. I can’t wait! Registering to vote. I can vote, I can vote! There’...

Wednesday read-along | Pastry & purls

https://pastryandpurls.wordpress.com/2015/08/12/wednesday-read-along

Creativity, taste, life. Courgette and beet greens risotto. Finnish butter eye buns →. Well, I haven’t had a chance to take a picture this week. It’s okay, though, because I haven’t really made much progress with knitting my sweater. I got distracted by reading. Specifically, I got distracted reading Broken Homes. Quickly as it was a little bit addictive, so I’ve already moved on to my next book:. Now, and the ace shirt. I really like reading non-fiction these days. How about you? Enter your comment here.

Finnish finds | Pastry & purls

https://pastryandpurls.wordpress.com/2015/07/29/finnish-finds

Creativity, taste, life. Down at the plot: Reaping rewards →. Is it horribly consumerist if I admit how much I love finding souvenirs? I don’t mean tat (though not pictured here is a kitschy Christmas ornament, because how could we not buy an ornament in Finland? I guess, for me, getting souvenirs is okay as long as they do serve a purpose and capture the spirit of a place. We got lucky in Helsinki. Like I said, it’s a city that loves its secondhand goods which made for fun shopping! Also found in Hakani...

From My Sickbed - Holds Upon Happiness

http://www.holdsuponhappiness.com/2016/09/from-my-sickbed.html

It is well to have as many holds upon happiness as possible." Jane Austen. Tuesday, September 27, 2016. There should be a rule that if the mom gets sick then no one else is allowed to get sick as well. Just once I want to get sick all by myself. I want my family to soothe my fevered brow, bring me countless cups of tea, and insist I not get off the couch. I'm living in a dream world, aren't I? We sound so appealing. The mind boggles at the misery. What do you read when you are ill? Books always make me f...

Books As Our Identity - Holds Upon Happiness

http://www.holdsuponhappiness.com/2016/09/books-as-our-identity.html

It is well to have as many holds upon happiness as possible." Jane Austen. Books As Our Identity. Tuesday, September 20, 2016. It is a truth universally acknowledged that if you want to be my friend you have to like Jane Austen. Tell me that you don't like one of her novels and I will judge you. Ask me, as someone recently did, who Jane Austen is and I will pass out from shock, recover and judge you, and then I will pass out again. Do we both have kids? Do we work in the same field? You like to bake?

A Girl And A Horse - Holds Upon Happiness

It is well to have as many holds upon happiness as possible." Jane Austen. A Girl And A Horse. Wednesday, December 28, 2016. A stuffed horse named Jake. Stick horses ridden around the back yard with her best friend. Books about horses; Misty of Chincoteague, The Black Stallion, National Velvet, By the Shores of Silver Lake- the part where Laura rides the pony. My daughter has always loved animals and horses have always been pretty high up on the list. Celia is literally counting the days until she goes b...

Home, make, be. October: birthday and back to work. November 8, 2016. October is now a special time for us as it’s Felicity’s birthday month. A year has gone very quickly and she is most definitely a toddler, she’s rampaging everywhere now and we have even had a few tantrums – eek! My big hope for November is that I can maybe do something that isn’t work/Mama-ing/housework or watching. Whilst slumped on the sofa exhausted . Gilmore Girls. Sunday night delights #18 | Home, make, be

https://homemakebe.wordpress.com/2015/02/08/sunday-night-delights-18

Home, make, be. Sunday night delights #18. February 8, 2015. Has been a bit of a low key one, we were on tenterhooks about the house for most of the week, the stress combined with an unhealthy diet has meant that I’ve come down with another cold. The good news (hopefully) is that we are exchanging contracts on our house tomorrow – which means it will be ours! So it’s impossible not to get a little bit excited about the idea we’ll be in before the end of February. The week to come…. Silly WhatsApp convers...

Handmade wedding part 3: the dress | Home, make, be

https://homemakebe.wordpress.com/2015/02/03/handmade-wedding-part-3-the-dress-2

Home, make, be. Handmade wedding part 3: the dress. February 3, 2015. After a long delay here is the next part of my handmade wedding series, looking at: my dress! I was lucky enough to have my wedding dress handmade for me by the hugely talented mother of the groom, who offered to sew the dress when Will first proposed. I can honestly say that the finished dress was so much lovelier than any of the wedding dresses I tried on in bridal shops. By buying it from John Lewis, we could also get fabric in a di...

Someone, Somewhere: Made: An Evergreen Wreath

http://jbistheinitial.blogspot.com/2016/12/made-evergreen-wreath.html

Words That Can Only Be Your Own. Sunday, 4 December 2016. Made: An Evergreen Wreath. This is an edited repost from my now-defunct blog, Words That Can Only Be Your Own. A wreath base (usually made of moss over a wire ring - I found mine on eBay for less than £2). Armfuls of greenery - at least two different kinds but the sky's the limit. I used cypress, holly, eucalyptus, ivy, pine and hebe. Secateurs or strong scissors. 2 Soak your ring [snigger] in water before squeezing out any excess. 4 Bend a length...

8211; delicious culinary creations brought to you from a simple country kitchen –. Spicy Slow Cooker Chili. By Pastry and Plaid. January 10, 2013. Let’s face it. Pastry and Poetry

Tuesday, November 20, 2012. There have been a lot of changes since I've last posted. For one thing, I am now in charge of making sure these are warm:. And I also get to look into these everyday:. At the end of September, out of nowhere, my father was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Four days later he was in surgery, and five days after that he came home. The next week, I was in the operating room, all feeling blocked from the middle of my back down, while the doctor and nurses delivered my daughter. It woul...

Pastry & Poppycock

Tuesday, September 20, 2011. Sometimes I think that I am too frugal. I could just buy the thing I don’t need, take the trip beyond what I can afford, and stay out late with friends at spendy night joints. Instead I cook my meals in, pay my bills every month, and take lots of walks for entertainment. Still, this is nothing like trying to support myself on minimum wage. Barbara Ehrenreich wrote the, now rather old, journalistic book Nickel and Dimed. In 2001, which I’ve only just read. So would you or I.
