Is lossless JPEG rotation truly lossless? Many software packages, including the image viewer built into Windows XP, nowadays offer so-called lossless JPEG transformations. Lets start with a simple image. The image dimensions are 320 by 240 pixels (both multiples of 16), and the file size is exactly 40.169 bytes. This is the same image, after it's been rotated losslessly by the Windows XP image viewer. Note that the file size has changed to 40.706 bytes. To answer that question, I used the ImageMagick.

Wandelen in Duitsland: de Noordelijke Eifel. De Eifel is een landelijke, heuvelachtige streek in het westen van Duitsland, vlak over de Belgische grens, en vormt in zekere zin één geheel met de Ardennen. Hoewel de heuvels laag zijn, en het landschap niet bijzonder spectaculair, leent het gebied zich uitstekend voor een rustige wandeltocht. In april 1998 bezocht ik de Eifel voor een korte wandelvakantie. Het betrof een georganiseerd vijfdaags arrangement van. Hieronder volgt een kort verslag van de tocht.
