Passionate pilgrim Shawnee seeking shalom. Tuesday, March 10, 2015. Review and Reflection: Unbroken. And this past winter, we discovered the story of WWII Veteran Louis Zamperini. Zamperini was an Olympic athlete, a Japanese WWII prison camp survivor, and a deeply committed Christian. And this winter, Angelina Jolie told a portion of his story in the movie Unbroken. Is also a book, and I am sure it is a great one, but I have not read it yet. Would I recommend this movie to you? View my complete profile.

Passionate pilgrim Shawnee seeking shalom. Tuesday, May 13, 2014. In Memory of Tata Chairman Philip Mohochi. Philip was an inspiring individual to be around. He loved others well, and provided strategic direction and cohesion for Nuru's work in Kenya over these last five years. He was the keeper of the vision for Nuru Kenya. Philip's eyes brightened, he smiled, and he looked me in the eyes and said, "It's like I'm living in a dream! May those who knew him continue fiercely moving forward in the work he b...

chanchanchepon: December 2013
http://chanchanchepon.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
Passionate pilgrim Shawnee seeking shalom. Friday, December 06, 2013. Yesterday, Nelson Mandela passed from this world to the next, and the world is brimming with tributes to his life and legacy. And there is good reason. Through his life, Madiba became a symbol of freedom, of forgiveness, and justice being lived out by a human being. Around the time of this speech was the same season in my life that I was awakened to the issue of extreme poverty as the greatest humanitarian crisis of our time, and I als...

Passionate pilgrim Shawnee seeking shalom. Thursday, June 20, 2013. Happy 150th Birthday West Virginia. Today, all over the great state of West Virginia. Proud citizens celebrate our state's 150th birthday! It is amazing when I think about how young and prolific our state's history is in the grand scheme of things. My dad has been alive for almost half of our state's history. I have been alive for more than 25% of it. In these hills, many have found a safe-haven and a source of refreshment and restoratio...

Passionate pilgrim Shawnee seeking shalom. Saturday, June 21, 2014. As I awoke this morning, I thought to myself, "Today is going to be a long day! And then I started thinking about past generations who watched the patterns of the sky and learned to judge time without a watch, but instead by the position of the sun at different points during the year. We could benefit from with regard to giving a pause to our day to observe what is happening around us? Slow down, to not. Find a space for reflection. ...

Passionate pilgrim Shawnee seeking shalom. Tuesday, January 13, 2015. National Human Trafficking Awareness Day 2015 Reflection. Although the actual day of observation was January 11. I believe it never hurts to be writing about the issue of human trafficking so more people can be aware of this issue and be watchful for signs of trafficking in their community. That's more than at any point in history! And this issue is not just a ‘big city’ issue. Want to know a great way you can prevent trafficking?

chanchanchepon: Family Traditions
http://chanchanchepon.blogspot.com/2015/01/family-traditions.html
Passionate pilgrim Shawnee seeking shalom. Friday, January 02, 2015. Most families have traditions. Sometimes they become so automatic, we don't even think about them. Whether it is the tradition of having Thanksgiving dinner together, or sitting down for a meal together at least once a week, they become part of our annual life rhythms. And if you find yourself reading this without an ability to recall a tradition in your family, maybe this year can be the time to start one. As I look back on many years ...
