Reading the Bible with Bill: March 2015
http://readingbiblewithbill.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Reading the Bible with Bill. Tuesday, March 31: Luke 8- Fear can be so debilitating. The reaction of the people of the Gerasenes to the man’s miraculous healing puzzles me. Then all the people of the region of the Gerasenes asked Jesus to leave them, because they were overcome with fear. So he got into the boat and left. I get it, that the whole demons into the pigs thing could have been a bit troubling, but to see a man in his right mind, dressed and acting normal. Wow! I would think that would be great!

Reading the Bible with Bill: Saturday, August 1: Psalm 53- Do you believe in God?.
http://readingbiblewithbill.blogspot.com/2015/08/saturday-august-1-psalm-53-do-you.html
Reading the Bible with Bill. Saturday, August 1: Psalm 53- Do you believe in God? Really, do you believe in God? If you do, where do you get your information and what do you do about your belief in God? If you don’t believe in God, where do you get that information and how does it impact your living? The psalmist opens with a bold statement: The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, and their ways are vile; there is no one who does good. I pledge my life. Amen. As you follow this b...

Reading the Bible with Bill. Thursday, August 13: 1Thessalonians 4- Pure living. God’s Word has a great deal to say about how we are to live and particularly the sexual ethic we are to follow as Christ-followers. The world of Paul’s day had a wild sexual ethic, much like the. God’s people were to maintain a different standard. Holiness; they were to avoid sexual immorality. Unlike non-Christians who do not have God’s Word, and they should not wrong anyone sexually either. Reading the Bible with Bill: May 2015
http://readingbiblewithbill.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Reading the Bible with Bill. Saturday, May 30: Psalm 44- in God we trust? In my country, the. We mint all of our money with our national slogan, “IN GOD WE TRUST.” It is printed in all capital letters on coin and paper. Those 4 words are a bold statement. Now it is certainly debatable whether it is true. OT Israel didn’t have an official slogan, but certainly IN YAHWEH WE TRUST could have been their national slogan. I was struck by this as I read the opening of today’s Psalm. God forgive me. God, I t...

Reading the Bible with Bill: Thursday, August 6: Galatians 4- Rules or faith?.
http://readingbiblewithbill.blogspot.com/2015/08/thursday-august-6-galatians-4-rules-or.html
Reading the Bible with Bill. Thursday, August 6: Galatians 4- Rules or faith? The simplicity of the Gospel is sometimes a bit scary, because it is so simple. I am reminded of Naaman in the Old Testament. He traveled to. To be healed of leprosy but when Elijah told him all he had to do was bathe in the. We are odd sometimes…. All God asks of us is to believe in Jesus and live from that posture of belief. God’s reward for faith in Jesus… we are heirs, children of God. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Reading the Bible with Bill: Tuesday, August 11: 1Thessalonians 2- Our Example.
http://readingbiblewithbill.blogspot.com/2015/08/tuesday-august-11-1thessalonians-2-our.html
Reading the Bible with Bill. Tuesday, August 11: 1Thessalonians 2- Our Example. For some reason as I was reading this chapter, I found myself musing about how people, and particularly church leaders, live their lives. It is sad when ‘well known’ church leaders fall. All too often it is something egregious… sex, money, lying and even power. Holy, righteous, blameless… that is how Paul described his behavior and character during his time among the Thessalonians. What an example of Christ. As you follow thi...

Reading the Bible with Bill: Monday, August 10: 1Thessalonians 1- Is every god or higher power equal? .
http://readingbiblewithbill.blogspot.com/2015/08/monday-august-10-1thessalonians-1-is.html
Reading the Bible with Bill. Monday, August 10: 1Thessalonians 1- Is every god or higher power equal? My thoughts were drawn to the final sentences of the chapter. And so you became a model to all the believers in. And Achaia. The Lord’s message rang out from you not only in. Is every god or higher power equal? Does it matter what ‘faith’ you follow or does a person just need to be spiritual? These and similar questions erupted as I read and re-read the 4 sentences above and particularly the last sentence.

Reading the Bible with Bill: Saturday, August 8: Galatians 6- Keep on doing good.
http://readingbiblewithbill.blogspot.com/2015/08/saturday-august-8-galatians-6-keep-on.html
Reading the Bible with Bill. Saturday, August 8: Galatians 6- Keep on doing good. Paul ends his letter with a knock out punch. Verse 12-15 sums up his letter’s main point. What counts is not circumcision and following the Law but being a new creation… through faith in the cross of Christ. This is a great truth to hold onto! Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). As you follow this blog...

Reading the Bible with Bill: February 2015
http://readingbiblewithbill.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Reading the Bible with Bill. Saturday, February 28: Psalm 31- . After reading the entire Psalm I sat reflecting on it. Particular phrases began to make connections. Once again David sings of his wondrous God who is with him in times of strife, hardship, pain and attack. Even as I wondered which phrase God might have me dive deeper into, I reviewed the Psalm again. This time the opening 3 words provided a key to unlock what my heart was experiencing as I read this Psalm. In you, LORD, …. Love the LORD, al...
