Packing | Peace Corps Por Favor!

https://peacecorpskatiem.wordpress.com/packing-list

Peace Corps Por Favor! Do it with a heart wide open. After I had accepted my invitation and gotten over the initial excitement, the next thing that crossed my mind was…”How do I pack for two years in two suitcases? 8221; I talked to some current volunteers in Colombia, reviewed the packing list sent to me by Peace Corps, and checked out some volunteer blogs online who had posted their packing lists for future volunteers! Note: Things in red are notes I am adding after being in country. Yoga pants (1capri...

Peace Corps Por Favor! Do it with a heart wide open. Read about the Postcard Project we are doing at my school in Gaira here:. The kids have been busy making use of the postcards in various projects throughout this school year. Rather than having only a few kids get to take part in the postcard project, we made sure that they could be reused many times! English projects with the postcards included:. 1 Students were each given a postcard and told to write a letter to the person who sent the postcard (an i...

Dream Big | Peace Corps Por Favor!

https://peacecorpskatiem.wordpress.com/dream-big

Peace Corps Por Favor! Do it with a heart wide open. The poem below came to me when I graduated college and has resonated with me since that time. I have written this poem in the front of the journal that will accompany me to Colombia (thanks to my best friend Lindley for the super cute eco friendly journal! If there were ever a time to dare. To make a difference. To embark of something worth doing. Not for any grand cause, necessarily-. But for something that tugs at your heart. You can do great things.

Why PC? | Peace Corps Por Favor!

https://peacecorpskatiem.wordpress.com/why-peace-corps

Peace Corps Por Favor! Do it with a heart wide open. This question is both the easiest and hardest question for me to answer. In my mind it is simple and was feels like the natural choice. To put my reasons into words seems nearly impossible. How can I explain my reasoning behind what is arguably the biggest decision I have ever made? This is an excerpt from a welcome packet:. You will get sick, and you will recover. I am following my heart to the opportunity of a lifetime. Wish me luck! This blog docume...

Under Pressure (me and my stuffed suitcase) – En Barranquilla Me Quedo

En Barranquilla Me Quedo. My adventures as a Peace Corps volunteer in Colombia. Under Pressure (me and my stuffed suitcase). January 4, 2016. Now I’m in the process of deciding which comforts of home I will bring and what I will be able to live without. With just 1 suitcase and 1 backpack, there will definitely be things I will have to leave out. Some key things I will. Sriracha, chili powder, chipotle seasoning, chipotle tabasco. Most South American countries are pretty wimpy with spice. In Ecuador, I h...

An apple a day. I have like a half dozen posts that I have written in the past 2 months that I finish and don’t post. I feel like a lot of the things I think may be offensive to other people, so I guess I’ll keep it to myself. I just have my own way of living and I can’t assume everyone thinks how I think. Not Lost, Just Wandering. Wednesday, May 18, 2016. 25 Thoughts I Had On My 25th Birthday. The end of my service is near, my friends. My mind is racing more than ever. Here's a little clip of what the inside of my brain looked like as I turned a quarter century old. 1) Why am I itchy? 2) I have to help my students prepare for an English debate contest. That's coming up on Friday. Guess I'm working until the bitter end! 3) How many more call-to-prayers do I have left to listen to in Indonesia? 22) I'm itch...

Lindsay in Moldova | Stories from a health educator and Peace Corps volunteer

Stories from a health educator and Peace Corps volunteer. This Week’s Lesson. This is not Moldova. August 2, 2011. I feel like I’m carrying a screaming, squirming infant in my arms and no one is noticing. Most people just ignore it. Some let their eyes pause briefly on it, ask a quick question and turn back to their smartphones. Very few take the time to find out what I’m holding, and then I find I have no words to explain what has happened to me. And it’s fun for the kids! So now I’m desperately waiting...
