Scrambling up Castle Mountain, Canadian Rockies near Banff

http://peakbagger.tripod.com/Scrambles/Castlemtn/castlemtn.htm

Castle Mountain from Trans-Canada Highway. Castle Mountain has caught the imagination of Bow Valley visitors since man's earliest presence. It is a striking peak with steep walls and rises above Trans-Canada highway not far from Lake Louise. The steep side shown here boasts several rockclimbing routes, the back side is merely a scramble. The approach, which visits two pristine alpine tarns, is a deservedly popular hike in itself. Click photos to enlarge. Scrambles in the Canadian Rockies.

Canadian Rockies alpine climbs: Climbing Tsar Mountain

http://peakbagger.tripod.com/Climbs/Tsar/tsar.htm

Tsar Mountain seen from Mt Rhodes in Clemenceau area. Click here for detailed trip report. This fine peak sits west of Mounts Columbia. And east of Mount Clemenceau. In a rugged, little-visited corner of the Canadian Rockies. Until recent construction of a logging road up Sullivan River near Golden, British Columbia, very few parties had ascended Tsar Mountain. It was identified to me while on an Alpine Club of Canada. Climbing camp in the Lyells. It is also clearly visible from Mount Edith Cavell. Spect...

We climb mountains for many reasons - for solitude, to get closer to nature, to escape the daily grind for a while, to achieve personal goals, to test our abilities, to see the world from a different perspective. As one of many reasons for heading for the hills, those of us who pursue a goal of climbing a specific group of peaks on a list are called peakbaggers. A compilation of sundry backcountry adventures, discoveries, mistakes, and mishaps, generously sprinkled with vivid photos, lively commentary, s...

PEAK BAGGER BLUE

Monday, February 23, 2015. 855 Miles and 3,019 feet of elevation gain. Another wonderful spring day in the middle of winter. We went up the old trail then past Mason Lake and on to Rainbow Lake. Just prior to Rainbow Lake, we met our first person on the trail, a guy doing a 27 mile trail run on his day off, what fun. I forgot to ask if he was training for the Cascade Crest 100 Mile Endurance Run. He did mention that last year at this time he was in show up to his knees. On the old trail to Mason Lake.

This is known as "peak bagging", the original idea coming from the highlands of Scotland. Come with me on this adventure as I travel around NZ's north island collecting all the mountains she has to offer, and hopefully some fantastic views too! View my complete profile. Monday, 20 January 2014. Mt Ngauruhoe (2,291m) / Mt Tongariro (1,967m). Well, let me sta...
