Everyday ecology and parachuting down. National Coming Out Day. October 8, 2009. National coming out day. In honor of the upcoming National Coming Out Day. I want to disclose something that I feel a little bit embarrassed about. I know it’s nothing to be ashamed of, but our culture is so fond of heaping shame onto us for our personal choices that it’s hard to avoid accumulating some of it. Waste for your waste? You’re not really washing yourself, just sort of…smearing. It’s not a pl...Too luxe for me.

Everyday ecology and parachuting down. No Impact Week: Prep. October 17, 2009. I decided last week I would participate in the No Impact Week Experiment. I’ll keep a record of my adventures here, instead of using Ning (which I don’t like). Tomorrow is also the day when I’ll collect all the trash I produce for the day so I can figure out where I can cut back on my waste on Monday. From → ecology. Larr; First Storm. More Light →. Still, it’s giving me a good chance to take a look at what my outdoor kitchen and living room might be like for the rest of the rainy season. I think it’ll help if we get our roof gutters cleaned out. I don’t know if they have been cleaned since last year, and if not, that could be exacerbating the leaks. No, this won’t be a weather blog all winter. You a...

Everyday ecology and parachuting down. October 11, 2009. I told my housemate yesterday how pleased I was with my success, and we talked about the house’s history with this particular squirrel a bit; apparently he is very bold and a little aggressive (which I had noticed, since he kept coming up to me while I was building the cage with a kind of “what do you think you’re doing to my plants, human” posture). You have had your day, squirrel. Now–it is war. From → Uncategorized. First Storm →. Blog at WordPr...

Even people who live in Oakland are shocked, Oakland is gorgeous, filled with eternally blossoming flowers. How could he believe that there are no butterflies in Oakland? I love how much faith you have and how you walk your path following your hearts lead. With the miracle of life, the corn, the squash bursting forth?

If you want to make a film about White heroes how about make some about real heroes, like the ones who helped organize the Underground railroad? Or the ones who helped end the Vietnam War? It reminds me of a conversation I had with my first graders when I was trying to teach them about slavery. One little White girl asked me, "Were all White people bad? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Tables, Chairs and Oaken Chests. Chris M.: Yet another Liberal Quaker with Conservative-leaning tendencies! Notes from the 2014 Cary Lecture by William Graustein. I attended the 2014 Stephen Cary Lecture. At Pendle Hill, the Quaker retreat center in Wallingford, Penna., in April. The following are my notes, pretty much unedited.
