https://librarypraxis.wordpress.com/2010/05/10/brooklyn-college-critical-library-instruction-report-back
Thinking about the work we do in the library. May 10, 2010. Brooklyn College critical library instruction report back. Ira Shor started speaking without an introduction. The clock rolled to 1pm, and in deference to gathering crowds, scrambled trains, and usual protocol, the organizers. I can’t listen without a proper cue to begin! 8211;which, in the end, is part of what’s required if we’re going to become critical teachers. Alycia Sellie gives a great run down of Shor’s talk. On May 10, 2010. I think the...

Moving beyond loving or hating PowerPoint | Library Praxis

Thinking about the work we do in the library. May 6, 2010. Moving beyond loving or hating PowerPoint. A recent blog post by Katherine Schulten (for the NY Times Learning Network. Poses the question: “Is PowerPoint in the Classroom ‘Evil’? If you’re Edward Tufte, the answer is yes. What does a presentation application (be it PowerPoint or something else) allow me to do? Can we imagine ways we might work with some of the ideas Poole presents? Laquo; Maria’s Reference Desk Nightmare Comes to Life. Ditch the...

Managing burnout | Library Praxis
https://librarypraxis.wordpress.com/2010/04/15/managing-burnout
Thinking about the work we do in the library. April 15, 2010. I teach my last class of the academic year in a few hours, a group of students in a biology and gender class. I’ve taught the class before, really enjoy the content, the professor’s terrific, etc. It’s an ideal class for me. Slight exaggeration, but also kind of true. I want to be a good, critical, reflective instructor. But I really struggle with burnout, too. There’s a great chapter in. By Troy Swanson that tackles the question. Chatting abo...

Reflections from a Small College Library: On the cost of e-books
http://supernumerarypa.blogspot.com/2009/02/on-cost-of-e-books.html
Reflections from a Small College Library. Tuesday, February 17, 2009. On the cost of e-books. Shelf Awareness is an online newsletter for the publishing industry. They have archived issues on their Web site, but only starting from last week. So since I can't link directly to the original, I hope they won't mind if I copy a piece that sums up my feelings on e-books and their pricing(speaking as a book-lover, not so much as a collection development librarian):. Concord, N.H., writes:. Great days of teaching.

Required field must not be left blank. View my complete profile. Thursday, September 25, 2008. Thoughts on the Dell Inspiron Mini 9. First, holy crap! The box was the size of my phone book, seriously - a tiny, tiny bit longer, but that’s it. Weight is fantastic for travel. Second, it’s pretty - I have the black and it just looks good. Screen: really well lit - one of my coworkers is considering one after just seeing mine and noticing how easy it is to read it is. Well lit and wide - things look right.

Reflections from a Small College Library: December 2008
http://supernumerarypa.blogspot.com/2008_12_01_archive.html
Reflections from a Small College Library. Wednesday, December 17, 2008. This semester, there seems to be an increase in the cases of plagiarism. The provost's secretary is working on coming up with quantifiable numbers. It could just be that more profs are using Turnitin, but then that probably means the problem was bigger than anyone realized. Or it could be students are becoming more ignorant as secondary schools continue their gradual decay. Hopefully I can get this done by the TE lunch. To play our p...

Reflections from a Small College Library. Wednesday, April 30, 2008. I had my last online class yesterday afternoon and it was as much of a disappointment as the previous two. Or I should say three since I missed one while I was at CiL. And he never got back to me about how I could make that up. Anyway, we learned about iGoogle and how to create our own custom search engines with Google. Our course management system). Your wrists in Cajun. We may be inviting one of the CiL. Reflections from a Small College Library: Recovering from a mistake
http://supernumerarypa.blogspot.com/2009/02/recovering-from-mistake.html
Reflections from a Small College Library. Wednesday, February 4, 2009. Recovering from a mistake. I volunteered to donate blood at our school's bi-annual blood drive yesterday afternoon, and got a "bad stick" as I'm calling it. The nurse or technician missed the vein and hit a nerve, which was very, very painful. This happened to me once before and it scared me off donating for a decade. That's bad, because I'm O- and that's the most useful blood type. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
