About the Peggy Bawn. For over 80 years the doyenne of the Dublin Bay fleet, the 36ft long cutter yacht Peggy Bawn is a remarkable survivor from a golden age of yachting style and craftsmanship. Not only that but she also has perfect breeding. But these massive yachts were broken up many years ago and Watson himself died rather prematurely at the age of 53 in 1904. So nowadays examples of this most famous of designer's work are rather rare. Royal Ulster Y.C. Regatta. Bangor, 17th July, 1894.

A quiet season for Peggy Bawn with a rest from regattas. Familiar sailing grounds. Superb racing and passagemaking. Beautiful weather. Every classic yacht must pay homage to 'Sacred' Cowes at some time in her life. Peggy Bawn raced the courses of her illustrious long-gone cousins, including Britannia, at the British Classic Yacht Club Regatta, followed by a very sweet dessert in Cornwall at the eclectic Fowey Classics. The process of rebuilding and restoring Peggy Bawn started with her purchase by Irish yachtsman and yachting historian Hal Sisk in early 2003. She'd been lying for some years - badly laid up and the subject of two aborted rescue attempts - in a hay barn near Dunmore East, Co. Waterford, Ireland. Years of neglect of her most basic needs and bad storage made it look a daunting task. As is always the case the project ended up much bigger than we'd hoped and more like we had feared.

Peggy Bawn is a unique sailing yacht originally built in the 19th Century and now rebuilt and restored to be quite capable of sailing into the 22nd. The construction methods and materials that builder John Hilditch originally used to give form to her designer G.L. Watson's sweet lines have been faithfully reproduced and restored by a team of craftsmen led by Michael Kennedy of Dunmore East, Co. Waterford, Ireland.
