PELAGIC BIRDER

Pelagic working voyages interspersed with local patch and occasional twitch birding news. Sunday, 16 August 2015. A trio of boobies. A good week for boobies- although only observed in low numbers, this juvenile red footed booby. Makes it three species in 5 days. Having done the obligatory 'eat the flying fish' routine it decided to settle on a mast allowing for some portrait shots to be taken. I have also had a brief visit from a bottlenose dolphin. And a distant frigate bird sp. A single great shearwater.

PELAGIC BIRDER: Crex crex

http://pelagicbirder.blogspot.com/2015/06/crex-crex.html

Pelagic working voyages interspersed with local patch and occasional twitch birding news. Thursday, 4 June 2015. Just back from a few days on the Isle of Lewis where the theme of westerly gales and tough birding continued. I only managed a trip species list of 63 over three and a half days birding- including a number of seabirds seen from the two Minch crossings. Best birds were undoubtedly a 1st summer Mediterranean gull. 1st summer Med.Gull. 14 June 2015 at 03:06. 14 June 2015 at 17:58. Ptarmigan, Cair...

PELAGIC BIRDER: January 2015

http://pelagicbirder.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html

Pelagic working voyages interspersed with local patch and occasional twitch birding news. Tuesday, 20 January 2015. And 4 velvet scoters. At a personal level it was quite satisfying being able to boost my BTO 'bird track' year list to 75 species- a very small consolation for missing my much needed Ivory gull- that has been frequenting my local home patch for some time- hmmm- I wonder if it will stick until I will be able to get home and catch up with it? PELAGIC BIRDER: Masked maurauder

http://pelagicbirder.blogspot.com/2015/08/masked-maurauder.html

Pelagic working voyages interspersed with local patch and occasional twitch birding news. Thursday, 13 August 2015. The skies around the ship have been largely empty although a very showy Masked booby. Put on a show as it chased the flying fish. A day later one of its' cousins showed up in the form of a Brown booby. Again feasting on the flying fish but on this occasion keeping a greater distance from my vantage point. Flying fish- seemingly on every menu! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). We are OFFh 2.

PELAGIC BIRDER: Of twitchers and ringers

http://pelagicbirder.blogspot.com/2015/07/of-twitchers-and-ringers.html

Pelagic working voyages interspersed with local patch and occasional twitch birding news. Saturday, 18 July 2015. Of twitchers and ringers. Late June saw me squeeze in a couple of quality twitches- first up was a splendid 1st summer male Ortolan. In Morar, followed the next day by good views of a Blyth's reed warbler. Near Inverurie- at one point it even started to sing! 1st summer male Ortolan. In addition to the commoner species such as spotted flycatcher. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). BOB SE Dua...

PELAGIC BIRDER: Kentish Plover twitch

http://pelagicbirder.blogspot.com/2015/05/kentish-plover-twitch.html

Pelagic working voyages interspersed with local patch and occasional twitch birding news. Sunday, 10 May 2015. An Avocet in Scotland is almost a mega! Anyway, moving swiftly on, I successfully twitched the marvellous Snowy owl. Last seen at Tarbet Ness yesterday). So it was with much relief that I successfully twitched the wonderful Kentish Plover. Hopefully the spring will turn up a few more twitchable rares! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Ullapool, NW Highlands of Scotland. BTO Bird Migration Blog.
