Wednesday, 25 June 2008. Day 18: From Byrness to Uswayford (Clennell Street) - 16 miles. At least the weather had improved a shade: when attacked it was by infrequent, if heavy, showers. I’m sure the Chew Green Roman Camp is of interest to archaeologists: to the untutored eye it is merely a series of humps a...

Tuesday, 24 June 2008. Day 3: From Standedge to Charlestown (Hebden Bridge) - 15 miles. The book was first published in 1990, so, I guess, the fieldwork was done a year or two earlier. To most people from Lancashire or Yorkshire, the masts at Windy Hill, just off the M62, are an ugly, if familiar, sight. On th...

Wednesday, 25 June 2008. Day 12: From Langdon Beck YHA to Dufton - 12.5 miles. Rounding a bend in the river Cauldron Snout presents itself: a boiling torrent of water and spray cascading down a steep cliff of dolerite rock. 8220;Bloody hell,” I ventured eloquently. “How on earth do we get up that? Coast to Coast Revisited: Random Thoughts

http://watsonswalks.blogspot.com/2009/01/random-thoughts_03.html

Coast to Coast Revisited. This blog is a record of my 2008 attempt at, and preparations for, Wainwright's Coast to Coast walk. Saturday, 3 January 2009. There are many extended walks in the UK, some just as scenic and varied as the Coast to Coast Walk. None, however, have its sociability: the camaraderie between hikers, from diverse ages, backgrounds and nationalities, is beguiling and addictive. The mix is magical. My third crossing was just as enjoyable as the previous two. . The stages were about right.

2007: Dales Way and More: A Walk in the Northern Dales – Introduction

http://dalesway07.blogspot.com/2008/07/walk-in-northern-dales-introduction.html

2007: Dales Way and More. A Description of a Dales Way walk in spring 2007, a summer trek in the Dales and a hike along the Cumbria Way. Wednesday, 2 July 2008. A Walk in the Northern Dales – Introduction. In the summer of 2007 I walked a three day route in the Pennines. I’d hiked the Dales Way in April, and planned to visit the Cumbria Way in September. There was a need to do something between the two expeditions to prevent myself from becoming too decrepit. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

2007: Dales Way and More. A Description of a Dales Way walk in spring 2007, a summer trek in the Dales and a hike along the Cumbria Way. Friday, 4 July 2008. Day 1: Ulverston to Coniston (16 miles). Sunday 16 September 2007. The day dawned dark and chilly with the forecasters predicting heavy and sustained rain throughout the day. Breakfast was a vegetarian affair: good enough, but I can’t recommend vegan sausage. Another of the joys of trail walking is visiting hidden, seldom seen places in popular area...

2007: Dales Way and More. A Description of a Dales Way walk in spring 2007, a summer trek in the Dales and a hike along the Cumbria Way. Wednesday, 2 July 2008. Day 3: Keld to Hawes (About 11.5 miles). Friday 3 August 2007. My feet were still playing up. I put the problem down to my Brasher Supalite GTX boots not being tough enough for my route. I’d have to splash out on something more robust before September. The path soon empties onto open moor. It is mostly paved and provides. There were a few people ...

2007: Dales Way and More. A Description of a Dales Way walk in spring 2007, a summer trek in the Dales and a hike along the Cumbria Way. Friday, 4 July 2008. Tuesday 18 September 2007. After arriving at the ODG my foot problem worsened. My right foot, from the ball to the toes erupted into one large deep-seated blister. I treated it as best I could and retired to bed, hoping the rest would relieve the problem. By morning it had, if anything, worsened. As on my last trip in the Dales, I was pleased that t...

Sunday 14 September 2008. Walking Distance: 19 miles). The Jenkins Memorial, Bolton-on-Swale. Breakfast lived up to St Giles Farm’s exacting standards. I was on my feet by 08:45hrs for the long slog to Ingleby Cross and walked intermittently with the Pilots. When I first came this way the White Swan. After Oaktree Hill,...

Coast to Coast Revisited. This blog is a record of my 2008 attempt at, and preparations for, Wainwright's Coast to Coast walk. Monday, 10 November 2008. Glaisdale to Robin Hoods Bay. Day 1: Hawes to Kirkby Stephen (About 15.5 miles). Wednesday 1 August 2007. The first pull of the walk was an 800 foot climb up Cotter End a mile or two out of Hawes – something of a shock to the system after having had a sedate ride over to the Dales. Never mind; I eventually got to the top. The walk went through grand, outstanding country. ...
