PARTNER FOR PEOPLE AND PLACE, INC. One of the farmers groups that JP works with. At a community fair a banner introduces Jatropha as a cash crop. People see how Gwo Medsyen (Jatropha) can be made into useful products at a fair sponsored by JP. JP is a meeting place for people who live on the land. JP gave jobs and training to victims of the earthquake. With 60% of the population under 16, this is Haiti's newest generation of farmers. Mothers and fathers have a great optimism for their children's future.

PARTNER FOR PEOPLE AND PLACE, INC. Northeast Haiti is dry and poor. The communities we serve are in a dry, difficult landscape, but not one without agricultural potential for a better life. Lying between ocean and mountains, this land has rich soil but scant rainfall and very little groundwater. People here limp along with seasonal subsistence farming. On this land it takes 40 acres to support one cow. With the rains the mesquite and cactus green. Traditional houses use a mud paste over woven sticks.

PARTNER FOR PEOPLE AND PLACE, INC. Black beans and field peas are a staple of the Haitian diet mixed with rice. Farmers learn how to measure rainfall for better farming. Organic composting for good soil management are important for agriculture to be sustainable. Beds are prepared for intensive vegetable production. Planting seeds for vegetables. JP's plant nursery grows tree seedlings for Jatropha groves and reforestation. A grove of jatropha interplanted with vegetables. In the field training.
