livin' the dream

Monday, September 8, 2008. This photo shows some of the new wet snow down low but more importantly it shows the bamboo that we skinned through on our way to Refugio Frey. I had envisioned bamboo to be in warmer less snowy climates but that was definitely not true here. I found this grizzly bear along the skin track? It was weird though he was walking upright and talking? He said something about going to Ushuaia and eating fresh fish! Bamboo chutes and elephant snot make for a weird skinning environment.

livin' the dream: July 2008

http://www.perrosdelpolvos.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html

Thursday, July 10, 2008. Where is the powder? Above is the giant couliour that we ripped yesterday. If you look closely you can see Tom and Beau in the middle ripping turns. You can't see the entrance to this monster but we can both tell you that getting out into the open corn was the greatest feeling of relief and accomplishment. Good things come to those who work hard and play even harder! Still skiing spring corn but winter is on the way! Wednesday, July 9, 2008. The above image is looking down a line...

Friday, August 22, 2008. Sunday, August 17, 2008. Helmet Cam Action.Falsa Lenas. Big day before the biggest dump of the season. Five hours of hiking for this beauty. The conditions were perfect and the snow on the upper face was nearly boot-top. Just over 5000 vertical feet top to bottom and nearly 3000 of it above 40 degrees so no complaints. Tom, Dave, and Jose making the tour look easy.well I guess it is a pretty nice way to spend 5 hours on a beautiful sunny day. Friday, August 15, 2008. Imagine the ...

Katie in the Mountains: July 2008

http://katieinthemountains.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html

Katie in the Mountains. Wednesday, July 16, 2008. First 14er of the season. We have this thing in the mountains called MTO- Mandatory Time Off. I don't know for sure, but I think it stems from when Vail Resorts HQ was in Avon and they encouraged non-mountain employees to work on the mountain during busy holidays. In any case, I love it! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Why I live here. 14ers knocked off the list. Mount of the Holy Cross. For the flower followers. Check out these blogs. First 14er of the season.

Katie in the Mountains: Viva la Sudamerica!

http://katieinthemountains.blogspot.com/2008/08/viva-la-sudamerica.html

Katie in the Mountains. Monday, August 18, 2008. About this time every year I start to think about skiing again, especially when I wake up to snow on the Gore Range like I did on Saturday. And when I get emails from friends in Chile and Argentina that are filled with expletives and hyberbole about the snow conditions, I really start to itch. It was about this time last year that I gave into my yearnings and headed to Portillo, Chile. And Las Lenas, Argentina. What an awesome vacation! Why I live here.

Katie in the Mountains: May 2009

http://katieinthemountains.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html

Katie in the Mountains. Saturday, May 2, 2009. Another season on the books. Two weeks ago, Vail Mountain closed for the season - it's 46th, my 6th. It is funny to think back on my first season and how things have changed. Year 1: Move to Vail for one season, work in ski shop, apply to law school, decide to stay through mud season and see what the buzz about summer is all about. Year 2: Defer admission to law school, continue work at ski shop, move horse to Vail, fall in love with summer in the mountains.

Katie in the Mountains. Monday, September 1, 2008. What a great weekend! To make a long story short, I am now the proud new parent/owner of a road bike courtesy of Colorado Bike Service who I would recommend to anyone looking for advice on bike. They are so knowledgeable and patients which was reasssuring for a novice bike owner like me. The next morning we woke early to hike La Plata Peak,. Hey welcome to the road bike club! Katie in the Mountains: Another big weekend

http://katieinthemountains.blogspot.com/2008/08/another-big-weekend.html

Katie in the Mountains. Sunday, August 10, 2008. First, let me just say that I LOVE the Olympics. There is something about the nature of competition and the emotion behind it that is so captivating. As I type this, I am watching the women's gymnastics on TV and the equestrian 3-day cross country phase live on my computer. Does it get much better than that? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Katie in the Mountains: Mountain Bike Camp

http://katieinthemountains.blogspot.com/2008/06/mountain-bike-camp.html

Katie in the Mountains. Tuesday, June 24, 2008. This past weekend I attended a mountain bike camp here in Vail. It was an all ladies camp which made for a lot of fun. Going into it I was a total chicken mountain biker- anything narrower than a Jeep road made me cringe. I signed up for the camp to hopefully learn some skills and improve my confidence. In any case, it was a great experience and one that I would recommend to anyone who felt the same way I did when I started. Why I live here.
