The Art of Photography. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. Newer posts →. February 8, 2012. The first assignment for the Open College of the Arts “The Art of Photography” is called “Contrasts”. This is not contrast as in the true photographic sense i.e. the range of brightness, but we are asked to show the contrast between different qualities such as Large and Small or Light and Heavy for example. Glass of coffee and the cappuccino being the short. Er cup of coffee. The eight and final p...

Implied Lines | peterdclarke

https://peterdclarke.wordpress.com/2012/08/12/implied-lines

The Art of Photography. Skip to primary content. August 12, 2012. Implied lines are imagined lines that can subtley direct the viewers attention in a way in which you want them to. In the picture below a lady in Crete who was making all sorts of shawls, weavings and lace work. Although her eyes are not visible you are drawn to her view of the sewing that she is working. Diagonals | peterdclarke

https://peterdclarke.wordpress.com/2012/07/26/diagonals

The Art of Photography. Skip to primary content. July 26, 2012. The next exercise in “Elements of Design” is Diagonals. Diagonals are relatively easy to produce in a photograph as I hope my images below show. It all depends on the viewpoint or more to the point perspective. Image one is of a staircase in Ilfracombe and it runs diagonally from the bottom left to the top right. Anyone who has been to Ilfracombe knows only too well how steep it is to get from the seafront up to the town centre and beyond.

Curves | peterdclarke

https://peterdclarke.wordpress.com/2012/08/07/curves-2

The Art of Photography. Skip to primary content. August 7, 2012. So we are now onto curves. Curves are said to pull your eye into the picture much the same way as diagonals do. The remit for this exercise was to take four photographs that use curves to emphasise movement and direction. I hope my four images below do exactly that. Canon EOS 60D, ISO 100, f10, 1/160, 17-85mm @ 66mm. Canon EOS 60D, ISO100, f6.3, 1/200, 17-85mm @ 66mm. Canon EOS 60D, ISO 500, f5.6, 1/20, 17-85mm @ 80mm. The Art of Photography.

Project 39: Using Faster Film and Higher Sensitivity | ianfrithrn

My OCA Learning PhotoBlog…. Project 39: Using Faster Film and Higher Sensitivity. Project 39: Using Faster Film and Higher Sensitivity. A camera captures an image by recording light – focused using a lens on to a light sensitive film or, in a digital camera, a light sensitive electronic sensor. The film or sensor must be exposed. To just enough light to record an image as intended – too little light and the resulting image is underexposed. Higher shutter speeds may be necessary to freeze movement or prev...

My OCA Learning PhotoBlog…. Project 38: Measuring the Intensity of Light. Project 38: Measuring the Intensity of Light. This is the first project of a new section of ‘ The Art of Photography’. Section 5 examines natural light, as opposed to artificial light. Finally estimated values have been added in an attempt to predict the change in graph shape during the winter and summer seasons. This practical experiment clearly demonstrates the changes in available light over a day but more importantly it promote...

Project 37: Filters with Black and White Film | ianfrithrn

My OCA Learning PhotoBlog…. Project 37: Filters with Black and White Film. Project 37: Filters with Black and White Film. The objective of this project was to take an introductory look at the effect of colour filters on black and white film – how they can be used to selectively adjust tones in the black and white image. To provide a bench mark for comparison a black and white version of the image was produced by desaturating the colour completely but making no other adjustments (Fig 2). In fig 4 a blue f...

Thank you to those who came out to show support for me on October 27th. Unfortunately, despite the help and hard work of excellent volunteers, we were not successful in winning a second term as Councillor for Ward 13. Although I will no longer be leading our community I will continue to enjoy it as a very proud resident. Peter D Clark - 2014.
