Chats with my Dog: November 2011
http://chatswithmydog.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html
Wednesday, November 30, 2011. Held Hostage by a Hadeda. This has happened for the last six years. Whenever it is breeding season, the Hadedas return to one specific tree in my garden and cause havoc. The Hadeda is a large dark brown/gray ibis with glossy greenish purple wings, a long black bill which is uses to eat earthworms, insects, spiders and snails. It has a loud and harsh call, hence the name and is found in Sub Saharan Africa. This year it was with relief that I noticed a broken egg on the ground...

Chats with my Dog: July 2011

Wednesday, July 27, 2011. A Wonderful Story Told Without Words. The German tourist jumped in and saved the dog. Upon getting back up on the bridge he checked the dog out and told the owner that, "Zer dog is Ok, and vill be fine.". She asked if he was a vet? He replied, ". Chats with my Dog: May 2011
http://chatswithmydog.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html
Tuesday, May 24, 2011. He saw a magnificent gate in the arch that looked like mother-of-pearl and the street that led to the gate looked like pure gold. As he got closer, he saw a man at a desk to one side. When he was close enough, he called out, "Excuse me, where are we? This is Heaven, sir," the man answered. Would you happen to have some water? Of course, sir. Come right in and I'll have some ice water brought right up." The man gestured, and the gate began to open. Can my friend come in too? Well, t...

Chats with my Dog: March 2011
http://chatswithmydog.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
Wednesday, March 30, 2011. Canine athlete definitely out of form. It has been a long month. It seems to have taken forever for Jamie's toe to heal. He has put on weight and lost quite a bit of fitness. So has Jemma. The big problem has been boredom. There is nothing more trying than an active dog that is bored out of its mind while convalescing. The main tip I was given was to keep Jamie chewing. Overwhelm him with chew toys, rawhide, hooves, stuffed kongs and bones. Tuesday, March 1, 2011. The vet said ...

Chats with my Dog: Hadeda Saga Finale...
http://chatswithmydog.blogspot.com/2012/02/hadeda-saga-finale.html
Thursday, February 23, 2012. I have been waiting a long time to get this shot. Finally, after six long months, a happy ending for the Hadeda family in my garden. You may recall one of my earlier blogs in which I lamented the fact that for six years the Hadedas have returned every October to nest in my trees. It was rare for more than one or two chicks to survive. Last year, all of the chicks died. There were thunder storms and lightning almost daily with temperatures soaring up to 30C. Nevertheless, ...

Chats with my Dog: We are on sabbatical leave...
http://chatswithmydog.blogspot.com/2012/05/we-are-on-sabbatical-leave.html
Tuesday, May 22, 2012. We are on sabbatical leave. If you have been wondering why we have been so silent for the past few months, it is because we are on sabbatical leave from the doggie world for a while. The nasty big business world is eating up every hour and while it pays the dog food bills, it's not nearly as much fun as the dog world. But we will be back. July 16, 2012 at 7:11 PM. Looking forward on your comeback. Have a safe one. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). We are on sabbatical leave.

Chats with my Dog: January 2015
http://chatswithmydog.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Thursday, January 15, 2015. Jamie and Jemma turn six years old in January 2015. They are faithful and delightful companions who still give me lots of love and endless patience. Jamie and Jemma are still disrespectful to trees. They still like other dogs and I am very proud of how easy going and sociable they are with other humans and canines (but cats and rabbits - not so much). Yup, it's true what they say, the dog is man's best friend. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

Chats with my Dog: Drama Dog...
http://chatswithmydog.blogspot.com/2012/02/drama-dog.html
Thursday, February 16, 2012. I am still reeling from our crash start to the new year. February seems to be the month for major canine surgery. Last year half of Jamie's toe needed to be amputated. This year was no different. Two weeks after returning home, Jamie stopped eating and looked off colour. We went to the vet but they were unable to make an absolute diagnosis and advised me to observe him overnight. The only option was full on surgery. I have become neurotic about letting Jamie out the house....
