Disconnections | Pewfodder
https://pewfodder.wordpress.com/2015/02/27/disconnections
Catholic life, seen from the pew. Asymp; Leave a comment. So it was a good idea to try to post daily during Lent, and I’m not giving up – but. This weekend I’m away, with little chance of any consistent Internet connection. And at the end of next week, I’m going to a country which blocks access to WordPress, and will be there for a week. So the ‘every day’ thing might need to become a little intermittent, unfortunately. We’ll see what can be managed round all this. Share on Facebook (Opens in new window).
Post Budget | Pewfodder

Catholic life, seen from the pew. Asymp; Leave a comment. My last blog focused on the way in which politics has become dominated by a belief in money instead of people, from the perspective of Labour and the Unions. Rather than writing a further post reflecting on how this is also – and even more so – the focus of Conservative policies, may I simply refer people to Fr Ed’s blog post of today. 8211; we might just start to turn this thing round! Catholic life, seen from the pew. Asymp; Leave a comment. The Sacrifice of Isaac by Caravaggio, (1590-1610; Oil on canvas; Uffizi). Abraham is holding the sacrificial knife. (Photo credit: Wikipedia). The first reading at Mass yesterday, from Genesis 22, was missing bits, as is often the case; and quite important bits. It does slightly annoy me when the lectionary edits Scripture! The fire and wood are here, Isaac said, but where is the lamb for the burnt offering? And again, verse 14 is missing:. And th...

Catholic life, seen from the pew. Asymp; Leave a comment. Proclaim15 is “. A significant evangelisation initiative… being launched to support, inspire and encourage new expressions of parish evangelisation. A project of the Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales. I was caught by the story of Danny, given in the discussion starter leaflet. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe. Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window). Catholic life, seen from the pew. My bags are packed…. Asymp; Leave a comment. English: Totius Orbis Cogniti Universalis Descriptio. (Photo credit: Wikipedia). And I’m ready to go. Off tomorrow to Foreign Parts, and parts so foreign they block out a good deal of the Internet, so posting to WordPress is not going to be easy, if feasible at all. This is the time to appreciate the Universalis. App – all the readings and offices of the day on my tablet! Times change, but prayer remains the same. Blog at Word...

Chef Files: Nuances of a Somewhat Befuddled Mind
http://cheffiles.blogspot.com/2013/12/nuances-of-somewhat-befuddled-mind.html
Nuances of a Somewhat Befuddled Mind. Distributing a discreet, but all too familiar brussel odour in the back of the little singing fella's. Car, she leaves us all with happy memories and her bottom set still wedged in the U-bend of the guest bathroom. A good time to clear my head of recent thoughts. The exasperated women in my household infrequently send me on a mission these days to retrieve household supplies from the local outlets. The valetudinarian. Chefs Fail Safe Hangover Cure. Chef Files: Relative Strangers
http://cheffiles.blogspot.com/2013/12/relative-strangers.html
And so, once more to the veritable seating arrangement for the forthcoming, long awaited, cornucopia that is Christmas lunch. Never an enviable task when one is born into a soap opera menagerie, all of which will make up the bones of the annual gathering here at the ancestral home of the Files. To the left, we have the inherited relations, 'Ceux dont nous devons si tristement divertir'. Porchetta Pork Loin with White Beans. 3 fresh garlic cloves, crushed. Grated zest of 2 Spanish oranges. 1 pork loin, st...
Chef Files: It Certainly Aint Kansas

It Certainly Aint Kansas. Come on all you people of Scotland, what is wrong with the picture here? Have the damply limp English mob brainwashed you into being as soft as their sorry lot? Next Thursday, cancelling hair appointments in favour of sandbagging the front garden against the incoming tsunami that in all reality is little more than a few drops of acid rain. Possibly. They might be swept away by a monsoon, even though the enforced hosepipe ban back in 1983 has never officially been rescinded.
Chef Files: Global Wardrobe Malfunctions

A gentleman does not stop momentarily to pick his good lady a bouquet of fresh flora wearing Adidas tracksuits and Ubbly Bubbly. No recipes today, the kitchen is temporarily closed for its pre-Christmas makeover. Instead, help yourselves to a nice spot of tea and a smashingly sticky bun. Created and prepared by. 12:41 am GMT 5. MaybeI prefer to call it comfortable. I am, however, fastidious about my glassware when it comes to enjoying my alcoholic beverages. Chef Files: Moments of Metronome
http://cheffiles.blogspot.com/2013/12/moments-of-metronome.html
Being in close proximity to ones friends for anything longer than a 24 hour period can of course have its drawbacks. Don't get me wrong, I am extremely fond, in a bearish, manly, non-sexual (in any way, shape or form) kind of way, to my good friend and long suffering companion, the little singing fella. One moment that will continue to linger rather painfully on. And for the love of all things holy, NEVER. Ask him to carry a drinks tray laden with the finest whisky money can ever buy. 11:05 pm GMT 5.
Chef Files: Tis the Season To Be Jolly
http://cheffiles.blogspot.com/2013/12/tis-season-to-be-jolly.html
Tis the Season To Be Jolly. I'm still of the firm belief that he is definitely from Belgium. With the advent of Stressmas so nearly upon us, I again took up my position beside my beloved, cramped and hunkered onto small plastic chairs not designed for anyone over 5.3, we sat for yet another laborious two hours in the village hall, watching other peoples childer curdle the words to 'away in a manger'. Why is it that they continuously insist upon putting the ugliest ones at the front? 3:14 am GMT 5. A grea...
