I'm a classical pianist who likes to write fiction. If I'm not writing or practicing, I wish I were. Monday, May 28, 2012. Intuitive vs. Rational Mind in Writing. The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.” Albert Einstein said that. But I haven't been at my computer writing for very long (in my life. Try to follow my thinking, people.), so the usual. Monday, May 21, 2012. I've enjoyed my f...

Carol Rich Writes: Writer beached
http://carolrichwrites.blogspot.com/2012/11/writer-beached.html
I'm a classical pianist who likes to write fiction. If I'm not writing or practicing, I wish I were. Saturday, November 10, 2012. 10 November, 2012. I wish I could be beached for a few nights every month. I just returned from Lincoln City, staying in number 1 at the Overlook. Very few places make me as happy as the Oregon Coast. Other than the pups refusing to come back on their walk this morning, it was really the perfect getaway. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Portland, Oregon, United States.

I'm a classical pianist who likes to write fiction. If I'm not writing or practicing, I wish I were. Saturday, March 31, 2012. To write or to promote? Now that "Between" is on Amazon and "Untethered" isn't lonely there anymore, my writing mojo is split between continuing book three, or promoting the new one. What are your thoughts? I am awaiting the day of my first book sale from a different country. That will be reason to celebrate! Tuesday, March 27, 2012. Sunday, March 25, 2012. And I need to practice...

Barbara Kingsolver on writing, compassion, climate change. 17 November, 2012 Barbara Kingsolver. Spent a cozy evening with nearly 3,000 adoring readers last night, and I was lucky enough to have been one of the recipients of her words. But I was there last night! Awe oozes from my every pore. I didn't want the evening to end. Portland Arts and Lectures finally got Kingsolv...

The Kittalog: Knitting again: Brioche stitch
http://kittbo.blogspot.com/2012/11/knitting-again-brioche-stitch.html
Food, dogs, gardening, books. Saturday, November 03, 2012. Knitting again: Brioche stitch. I wasn't really planning to start knitting again, but I had an opportunity to take a class with Nancy Marchant, the Queen of Brioche. This stitch is common in Europe but little known here. It's actually a kind of double knitting, with each row knit twice. I'm practicing it on this one-color scarf, but it's really best for two-color patterns. What you get is fully reversible. Crazy, huh? Oh, I love my brioche scarf!

The Kittalog: Sew then this happened
http://kittbo.blogspot.com/2013/01/sew-then-this-happened.html
Food, dogs, gardening, books. Saturday, January 19, 2013. Sew then this happened. Over the summer I expressed an interest in getting a sewing machine, and my most awesome mother-in-law said, "I have an extra machine you can have." She and her stepmom had bought the same machine back in the '80s, and she later inherited it when her stepmom died. It's a very lightly used Husqvarna Viking 190, and my mother-in-law had it serviced before she handed it over. By Kristin Link of Sew, Mama, Sew. I have things I ...

The Kittalog: Farro salad with apples, toasted almonds and more
http://kittbo.blogspot.com/2013/03/farro-salad-with-apples-toasted-almonds.html
Food, dogs, gardening, books. Sunday, March 10, 2013. Farro salad with apples, toasted almonds and more. It was a snowy day on Saturday, though not the raging blizzard we were expecting. The predicted foot of snow turned out to be 4 inches, and I didn't even have to shovel the south-facing sidewalk. All the snow just melted right off it. Still, I didn't want to leave the house unnecessarily, which meant cobbling together something for lunch with what I had on hand. Costco was selling it, so I grabbed a b...
