belly button fuzz: December 2005

http://www.philiplauri.blogspot.com/2005_12_01_archive.html

Open road and america, man. Friday, December 30, 2005. We got to byron bay ok. this place is just as good as when i left it last. its a bustling beach town with hippie/hipster attitude. you can get the cool jewelry, eat at swank cafes, and play guitar with the hippies on the street. its a unique place, no doubt. We have been beaching it for the majority of the time. managed to sleep outside last night as we dont have a hostel. that actually proved to be very relaxing and got a great sleep. Check out brya...

Open road and america, man. Monday, January 30, 2006. Pictures, pictures, pictures. from top to bottom: mohawk crafting, our "place" here at the coopers, the blown up porsche i was talking about at the mca, australia day out at the palace with alissa, bondi beach. So last day in sydney. bittersweet as hell. Good news on the CHUG front- the car has been revived and will be shipped to us in bangkok on thursday! We've met lots of people here- i wanted to do like a "profile" of each person we came across in ...

belly button fuzz: SO WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!?

http://www.philiplauri.blogspot.com/2008/07/so-what-are-you-doing.html

Open road and america, man. Wednesday, July 30, 2008. SO WHAT ARE YOU DOING? Eventually, a few days later, I got all my money back. That was Craigslist failure number one with a minor twist of success. Temi was kind of freaking me out. Despite all these sings of Satanic-like behavior, I walked out of Temi’s Wrigleyville apartment with an Apple laptop. So it all stopped and crashed because lets be honest the curse of Craigslist had to show its face at some point. But I feel OK. I really do. I am s...Serio...

Open road and america, man. Friday, September 26, 2008. The bus- el autobus. The driver- forget it. Please- por favor. To need- necesitar. To get off- shit. Address? I know that. I know that one. Jesus. I can probably muster something close to it. He will understand me. Maybe. God, I thought I was better than this. OK. Este or es? Who cares. He will understand. OK. Go. He nodded looking at me calmly, "cinco minutos amigo"- five minutes, friend. Do buses have eight wheels? The last month has left me with ...

belly button fuzz: crotch rocket

http://www.philiplauri.blogspot.com/2008/07/crotch-rocket.html

Open road and america, man. Monday, July 07, 2008. My parents came back in and I was quick to tell them that the nurse had just removed all my pubic hair. Mom looked like she was going to vomit on me and Dad just kind of giggled and asked many more questions like really, ALL of it? Well, when I reach for the remote it feels like Godzilla is pouncing on my stomach. Want to roll over? Just forget it, not happening. Time to be back ON THE ROAD. Posted by philip @ 8:14 PM. How were delayed on a 6am flight?

Ramblins: January 2007

http://ramblinschambelan.blogspot.com/2007_01_01_archive.html

Rather long-winded accounts of my personal experiences traveling the world over. Friday, January 19, 2007. Pasific Coast - Costa Rica. Having gotten in touch with our inner spirits in the cloud forest, it was time to drink a few and we said bye-bye to the wet and windy Highlands making path for the dry and hot Pacific coast. Leah, a friend we all knew from college, was taking surf lessons with her sister in the centrally located. And we thought that would be the perfect place to start. Asshole). He w...

Ramblins: Coast to Coast – The first leg

http://ramblinschambelan.blogspot.com/2009/08/coast-to-coast-first-leg.html

Rather long-winded accounts of my personal experiences traveling the world over. Friday, August 14, 2009. Coast to Coast – The first leg. Heading south, down the spine of California, along the hot, black tarmac of 1-5, we tried to plan our route. We didn't have a particular destination in mind for the end of the day, only that we wanted to get as far as we could so we could pull into our real destination. Uh, well," she finally offered, "there's a Denny's down the road, people go there sometimes.". Feel ...

Rather long-winded accounts of my personal experiences traveling the world over. Thursday, September 24, 2009. Coast to Coast - New Orelans, LA to Savannah, GA. We hadn't noticed it much in New Orleans, but having arrived in the Southeast, we had entered into another ecological zone. A temperate, almost tropical, landscape lay before us, with salt grass marshes breaking up dense jungle enclaves of over-grown ferns and moss-covered. Cypress and Oak trees. And the land was brimming with life; fresh hat...

Rather long-winded accounts of my personal experiences traveling the world over. Sunday, August 23, 2009. Coast to Coast - Santa Fe, NM. Though the temptation to stay in this frying pan of a homestead was almost too much to resist, we were on the road by 8:30 the next morning, Needles quickly fading out of site in our rear view mirror. We had a long drive ahead of us, 600 miles to Santa Fe,. Five hours in, we hit the New Mexico State line and the topography began to tansform before us– hills formed...

Rather long-winded accounts of my personal experiences traveling the world over. Monday, April 23, 2007. No real structure to this one, just random thoughts and snippets of stories. As they come to me. It`s time I started living up to my blog name. I went back to Isla. Last week. I think I got a mild case of food poisoning from the club sandwiches at the hostel, but it was still soooo. Good I'd do it again. T crazy enough to free climb down the side of a four story building, oh no, I knew I just needed s...

Rather long-winded accounts of my personal experiences traveling the world over. Monday, August 24, 2009. Coast to Coast - Santa Fe, NM to Austin, TX. Needing a bit of a break from the road, the following morning we stuck around Santa Fe, taking Zoe to an off-leash trail head on the outskirts of the city and hiking up a ridge that offered panoramic views of the city and surrounding mountain ranges. We lunched at another patio restaurant, and took that time to plan our next leg of the journey. It was here...

Rather long-winded accounts of my personal experiences traveling the world over. Thursday, September 03, 2009. Coast to Coast – Austin, TX. The city itself was nice enough. Even as the state capital, Austin still managed to avoid most of the pitfalls that come with that title. It was a descent size city, but there were plenty of open space. It was stretched out over a large area but had a navigational freeway system. The downtown had its skyscrapers and state. Ceeded to wait until well past dark for the ...

For no rational reason that I can explain, I have a liking for these simple flat back plaster houses. Maybe its their naive charm, their simplistic construction or just the fact they are usually inexpensive. Whatever it is, I like them and have been collecting them for some while now. The first few I found were at a car boot sale a few years ago and I made the big mistake of looking at the back. There, etched in the plaster, was a number. That meant there were more like them and so I was hooked -.
