Recipes and Reflections from PhD Foodies. For most people in graduate school, it’s more convenient to take the easy road and grab take-out, frozen pizza, or ready-to-eat meals. Science seems to trump proper nutrition. This blog documents our food journey. From trying to replicate our mom’s homecooking, to adapting ourselves to the local cuisine, and to finding and trying out the cost effective recipes that fit our limited resources. Current location : Saarbrücken, Germany. Country of origin : Philippines.
Travel PhooD: Guinness in the Water | PhooD Journal
https://phoodjournal.wordpress.com/2011/05/16/travel-phood-guinness-in-the-water
Recipes and Reflections from PhD Foodies. Travel PhooD: Guinness in the Water. May 16, 2011. May 16, 2011. It was Easter weekend, and I was off on a jet plane (after a security mishap at Frankfurt International) to Dublin, Ireland, where I was to meet my good friend Lolli for a weekend of Irish revelry (and, for me, a whole weekend of English). Guinness flowing on the Guinness estate. Complete with black, crunchy blood pudding medallions. A boxty, much better. Lolli had a jacket potato with vegetable rat...

Recipes and Reflections from PhD Foodies. How I won a beer-tasting contest…and encountering Westvleteren. April 17, 2011. Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa. Wait, a virtual teetotaller winning a beer-tasting competition? I kid you not, I identified 8 out of EIGHT beers. Here’s the proof:. I wasn’t expecting to win the contest, but I swore to myself that I should be able to identify the Chimay from the Rochefort 8, since the latter is my favorite dark Trappist beer. Yes, I prefer. Taste-wise, it’s al...

Bavarian cream into a warm empty doughnut. You will probably feel either a resistance in the flow of the Bavarian cream or no flow at all. Either. Although both words literally translate to Bavarian cream, the former was introduced in Germany by a French chef who was working in Bavaria (. Because one of its steps has a s...

Write to "Dear Labby"! Saturday, February 2, 2013. The Sartorial Scientist: Everyday Clothes for the Everyday Researcher. One of my best gals and a talented geekette specializing in semiconductors) and I would sometimes have online conversations that do not entirely refer to our own research projects. We would eventually end up talking about sartorial issues in the (lab) office and workbench. Here's a list of basic items a grad student should have in order to not look like a drowned lab-rat:. Write to "Dear Labby"! Wednesday, March 20, 2013. Lusus Naturae - The Rise of the Homo Zapiens. Beware of the rise of the homo zapiens. The terminology " homo zapiens. Was taken by yours truly from the weekly academic news alert I get from KU Leuven: " The trick to learning on the go? Because we've gone beyond Generations X and Y.it's Generation ZAP! Write to "Dear Labby"! Wednesday, January 30, 2013. Lusus Naturae - Tools of the Trade. While purging my email inbox a few days ago, I came across my weekly alerts to The Scientist. Magazine articles. Before deleting one alert, an article caught my eye- Lab 2.0. OK, catchy title. Mouse over, then click and browse. This just made me scratch my head for a bit. This week's letter is about how we deal with curmudgeons-in-chief (i.e., your boss.es). Prof A wants me to jump, but Prof. B wants me to sit- just to illustrate my point, if you know what I mean. Write to "Dear Labby"! Friday, February 8, 2013. Slow-Food Take-Away at L'Inizio. I had to do a double-take when I saw the clapboard sign outside the hole-in-the-wall along Parijsstraat. Slow-food pasta dishes for take-away? Is that even possible? Does all of that, and more. And since I was too tired this week to even bother cooking for myself, I picked up a serving (a very generous portion! I even brought the leftovers for lunch) of spirelli alla sasi. 3000 Leuven, Belgium. Luikse Wafels at Croccantino's.

Just making kwento to the whole mundo. Archive for July 2010. Laquo; just making kwento to the whole mundo home page. I want my bike back! July 8, 2010. If there's one thing right now that I'd like to have back is my bicycle. It was stolen a few weekends ago right in front of my apartment building. And yes there was a lock on it. But since there are no railings that I could attached it to, the bike lock was just around the wheel, so the thief could just easily carry it away. Be the first to comment.

We’d never been to Turkey before, so it promised to be quite the exotic adventure.
